I know this has been discussed a little bit, but does anyone have a review specifically about Kendra? I'm curious.
Thank you

Posted: 6/27/05 at 9:29amI think so. She uses her body to be funny. Like during Popular she will flex her muscles and stuff. I think its very funny. Thats just me tho. I dont think she is the funniest Glinda, but she is def. the best at acting.

Yeah, I think that the order is:
1. JLT
2. Chenoweth (I know that others will argue between these two)
I haven't seen Hilty or Kendra yet.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 9:43amI saw a video of JLa, and I like her much better than Kendra. Jennifer Laura Thompson uses her voice to her acting advantage...Kendra uses more physical humor. She really owns it in Popular, she shakes her boobs around, she wiggles her butt, hops around. One thing I particularly remember quite fondly was right after she told Elphie that she and Fiyero would be married (when they "exchange secrets") she did this sort of spazzoid giggle-fit-laugh-gasp and ran over to her bed and sort of like...ducked behind it peeking out at Elphie. It was really cute.

I took it as a character choice. I enjoyed her in Act One, though I did occasionally find her grating. I thought she did a nice job of setting up Glinda having matured in the years between Act One and Act Two.

Her style is def. different from Chenoweth. At first, I also found it a bit grating, but she made it work. I agree w/ Kringas; her maturity seems a bit more obvious when Act I Galinda is so immature.

I've seen 4 Glinda's now:
I think overall - JLT (but maybe only cause she was my 1st)
Kendra - best at physical comedy, but a lot of the verbal jokes got lost on the audience.
Katie Adams - best at selling the verbal jokes
Emily Rozek - really strong singer, cute!

I quite enjoyed Kendra. I thought she has a very intereting take on the character. Kind of Goldie Hawn meets Megan Mullulay meets Cheno. She was a ball of energy in popular and conveyed some strong emotions in the second act.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 7:01pmI thought Kendra was very funny. Vocally she was not as strong as some other Glindas, but I thought her comedic timing and physicality were very good. I enjoyed her performance immensely.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 7:15pmOk, I'm gonna be honest ....with all due respect to Kendra, because she does have some nice moments, I HATED her performance. As said before she does a lot of her comedey through physical fits...to some i understand this is funny and i will admit i chuckled the first few times but she does this THE WHOLE SHOW! This is a very poor choice because IMO it makes the character really fake and ditsy to the point of unrealistic. I kept thinking i was watching a disney cartoon on crack. Also doing this she threw away a number of parts which im sure could have gotten a laugh. The main problem with her aproach is in Act 2 you just don't buy any of her seriousness and she just didn't have the depth that i wanted and thats not to say you can't have fun with that character because she is a ditz but she's a HUMAN ditz and not a cartoon and she played as a cartoon and i realize that that works for some people my mom liked her acting a lot and she most of the audience laughing the whole time but i can just see you doing soo much more with the role than she did. Then i also found her singing leaving a lot to be desired in No One Mourns the Wicked she didn't hit the notes very well at all and had quite a few bad attacks she also didn't hold any note for very long at all. My mom at intermission was like this was the best they could find???! and the whole section of people agreed but i actually found the rest of the production great in particular the smaller characters like Boq who was great and loved Nessa and Carol Kanes Morrible and Steph's Elphaba was very nice honestly she was the only weak link in the production...only my opinion but yeah i say pray for an understudy.

I saw her on a day when she was ill (she missed the matinee and definately had a nasal thing going on in the opening number), and I'll be honest- she was decently good. But definately not anything special. And I say that with respect and best wishes towards her. Sadly, I think the funniest thing that she did during the show (to me, and though I hadn't seen it before, I knew the show well enough to know when there was a mess up) was a costume change that went ary in Dancing Through Life...
