Really an amazing night. These rarely disappoint. Only "odd" tribute were the Jonas Brothers for Earth, Wind & Fire.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
The show, stellar, makes me re-evaluate performers I have unfairly pigeonholed. Last year, Adam Lambert, arguably, gave an Emmy-worthy rendition of "Believe" in honor of Cher. Stunning. And fully disclosure: I loathed him on sight prior to that night. (I've since watched it 25-30 times; it's a definitive cover.) Tonight, Carrie Underwood, a singer I've been indifferent to without strong negative feeligns, started off the Ronstadt homage in a pristine voice, without any affect, and nailed the tribute. Simply perfect. The evening was magic from that moment on, and after Kline's words, and then Emmylou's, I was in tears.
