Kick-Butt Broadway Characters

Who are the Broadway characters that kick major a**? Here's my list so far, and my reasons why.

In no particular order:

*Javier (Les Miserables) Because he never gives up! After all of those years of hunting for Jean Valjean and he still doesn't let up! He takes names, and just wants justice, even if his morals are overly ridged. And even if he does come across as a little concieted. Ok, maybe alot concieted. But still, he does have a sense of justice, and you have to admire that in him.

*The Emcee (Cabaret) Because he can do anything.

*Enjloras (Is this how you spell his name?) (Les Miserables)Like Javier, he has a sense of justice and wants to right the wrongs of the world one step at a time. He just has different methods, that's all.

*The Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera) While I'm not one of those teeney-booper fans who are like OMG THE PAHONTOM!!!!!!11111, I do have tremendous respect for this guy. He has a lovely voice (in the musical, anyways) AND composes his own music, even if that music does suck. Before Andres and Firmin got in, the old manager used to pay him a salary. And he didn't even have to threaten him one bit! And, to top that off, he had the heart to let Christine go with Raoul. Talk about brave.

*Carlotta (The Phantom of the Opera) The actress who plays her obviously has the most fun on stage out of the entire cast. She also doesn't take anything from anyone, even if she can be a diva.

*Galinda/Glinda (Wicked) In all fairness, I've never actually seen Wicked, but I own the soundtrack, and Kristin Chenoweth seems to have a LOT of fun playing her. But then again, I'm just a biased fan.

*Billy Flynn (spelling?) (Chicago) Because he knows what he wants and how to get it. Also, he gets that awesome tapping gig in the movie. Tap dancing = hotness.

*Roger DeBris (The Producers) He gets the best part in the show! As Gary Beach wisely puts it, he gets to wear a dress in act one and prance around as Hitler in act two. And he gets that wickedly awesome tap number to boot.



Any others? Let's make the list longer than it already is. Be sure to add WHY they kick-butt so much, or else it doesn't count.

Mama Rose in Gypsy because she kicks butt all the way through the show and then has one of Broadway's most interesting 11 o'clock numbers.

I of course have to second Enjolras

However, I would add Percy from The Scarlet Pimpernel to the "butt-kicking" character list. He kicks plenty of French derrieres while rescuing comdemned aristocrats from the guillotine. Of course a case can be made for Chauvelin as well.

Nehebka in Aida because she is willing to die for her friend and is extremely courageous

Riff in WSS because he knows how to be a leader and how to get what he wants

Dr. Dillamond in Wicked because he focuses on teaching his students even though he knows that he is in danger

Sandy from Annie because even though he is a dumb dog, he knows that tomorrow is just a day away and he is the symbol of Annie's courage.

*Grizabella (Cats) Because she gets the only decent song in the entire show.

I think the Beast kicks ass.

And Henry Higgins. Because you gotta love a guy who can force a girl to stuff a bunch of marbles in her mouth.

Celie from The Color Purple because she kicks butt throughout the whole show even though she might not show it at the beginning. Her character is SO AMAZING! Ahhhh! I love it.
