What do you guys think? I think Vanessa Williams should reprise the role, this time being the originator of the Revival.
Catherine Zeta Jones would be great in it too.

sure but lets wait more then 12 years from original, so that it is fresh, and not in the shadow of the original, like so many recent revivals.

muscle always gets so excited about things.
If he were a puppy, I imagine he'd be peeing on the kitchen floor every hour.

Bso, that was a funny comment about muscle.
I agree that the show should be revived but not with Williams though. I think Donna Murphy would be fabulous as Aurora/Spider Woman. Maybe Raul Esparza could play Molina.

Let's give it 8-10 years.
Love the Zeta-Jones selection. I could definately see her in that role.
I support this revival. James Barbour can play Valentine.
I think it is a little too early for a revival...but I say make it a movie! Kander and Ebb have been the most successful when it comes to adapting their work to the screen. They are two for two. Lets see if they can make it three for three!
A Broadway revival should wait a few years, true. It's only been gone for ten years. Let another generation discover it.
But just dream casting...
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Deidre Goodwin or Rachelle Rak as Aurora
Raul Esparza as Valentin
Denis O'Hare as Molina
This can wait.
How about some South Pacific?

It's way too soon to revive "Kiss" Wait another ten years or so.
If you're near Chicago, I'm in an upcoming production (as the Warden). It's going to be awesome--the guy playing Molina is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

that should be amazing!!! how are the rehearsals going??? i hope all the people that went to see Wicked in Chicago...will go to see this masterpiece called "Kiss of the Spider Woman".
Rehearsals are going great. We open in a month, but it feels like a year! I can't wait.
Break a leg, Mr. Baritone! Any fun stories from rehearsal? Always wondered what it's like to put such a challenging show together...
I hate the Warden!!! Good luck, Baritone. I think it is time to revive it though, I mean, maybe they should wait about 5 years but not 10. I also agree with the Catherine Zeta-Jones selection but I still believe Murphy is completely right to play this role. Jane Krakowski would probably be a good choice as well. Is Anthony Rapp too young to play Molina? Alan Cumming would make a great Molina too. I just wish they revived this show with a new concept like they have done with the other two great Kander&Ebb revivals. Is Spider Woman considered a book musical, a concept musical, or a mixture of both?
The idea of a movie of this show would be great just because it'd be easier to include a lot of cinematic elements that would add to the story. It'd take a great director to make it appealing to audiences not familiar with musical theater just because although Chicago is my favorite show, I believe Spider Woman's is Kander & Ebb's most complex score.
you mean a musical movie...correct? there is already a movie of "kiss of the spider woman" ...i was actually watching "sordid lives" tonight and noticed that one of the charachters named "kiss of the spider woman" ...what a funny movie...the mother was telling her son not to be nude onstage playing a homosexual and went "if you want to play a gay, do something like that guy in the spider woman movie so you can win an oscar or something" LOL!!!
LOL, really? I meant a movie musical, I know there's a movie based on the play or the novel I can't remember. It stars Sonia Braga the great Brazilian actress that played Samantha's lesbian lover in Sex & the City. What are your thoughts on a movie musical muscle?
I'd see this show anytime, One of my all time faves! This would be excellent on film too, The musical is so much better than the drama I think.
For the film or stage, I'd choose:
C ZJ as Aurora
Raul Esparza as Molina
Antonio Banderas as Valentin
(If he has to drag her along, then Melanie can be Marta but with BROWN hair!)
and Shirley MacLaine as Molina's Mother
revivals should have a 25 year wait period. it is far to soon to do kiss again.
"Kiss of the Spider Woman" (musical) should be a film. It's very cinematic (obviously).
I'm pretty sure it was optioned again for consideration after Chicago came out. I'm not sure by WHO though.
I'm not sure if the subject matter is "mass appealing" enough to spend the money to film it though. Not exactly Harry Potter.
There were rumours, for a while, of a made-for-TV film version (Showtime, I believe) that would star J.Lo and Mark Anthony. No idea if that's going anywhere, but I'm still scared.
And just tossing weird casting ideas out there... can anyone else sorta-kinda picture Hugh Laurie as Molina? He can do comedy, he can do VERY intense drama, and he can at least carry a tune. If there is a made-for-TV version, I think he could do quite well.
