Doubt you're right. I remember reading they were pummelled with requests for the MTV taping.

No, all signs seem to point toward that they cancelled it because they couldn't fill the theatre. They posted the call for audience members Friday, and yet I e-mailed Sunday and was confirmed this morning (with the e-mail invite including that line about bringing all my friends). And if they really had an avalanche of volunteers, I doubt they would have been able to call everyone.

Seriously. Think about it. No one would go through thousands of email requests for tickets and personally call all of them to tell them it was cancelled! If that were the case they would have sent a huge mass email. There was even something in the 1st email saying that "unlike the taping of the show a few months ago there are NOT a limited number of seats open." Something along those lines. They couldn't fill the theatre it so clearly seems.

OK so 1st people said it was canceled because the show was going to close (you know, like its going to close every week), and now its because they couldnt fill the theatre!!

could the real reason be (wait for it) the reason they gave???

Who says they needed to call everyone? They could of called some, emailed some, done both for some. I'll bet it had more to do with secrecy and privacy.

The whole last minute thought "Wow maybe the winner could be leaked!?" just seems so bogus. These are big producers of MTV or whatever who have done this before AND they know how it works. There were audience members at the 'Making the Band" finales. I just don't think they are dumb enough to have the confidentiality thing dawn on them the VERY last minute. Odd. 10 bucks the winner is leaked anyway!!!

Im sure its some mass conspiracy as all are saying, the show is about to close, no one wanted to go to the live taping of the final, the contestants were probably awful,,,,hell maybe MTV is calling it a day

I'm glad I looked on here. I got a confirmation email that I was in but no notice that it had been called off.

Last time, people were given the opportunity to see the complete Broadway show worth anywhere from $40 to $110 (including premium prices) - for free. This would've been just a taping of the final episode of a reality show we know little about. Of course it would be more packed at the taping of the entire Broadway show. Granted, they didn't say the real reason it was cancelled was because they couldn't fill the entire theater, but it is a possibility.

No I agree, I don't think they could have filled the theater and they were worried about confidentiality. I mean, I think I got my email on Sunday about the taping, so it seemed really last minute to me anyway. It's such short notice, IMO.
And yeah, I mean you sign a confidentiality agreement but they are justified in their wariness

That was my first guess. And even if it is doing well, who's to say it won't close before they air the finale of this reality show?

That's a lame comparison. First, they were offering a free Broadway show with an audience that were mostly familiar with the show and its cast. This is the taping of a FINALE of an unaired tv show selecting someone the audience has absolutely no familiarity with.

I agree. The idea that it suddenly occurred to them today that the winner might be leaked seems a bit far-fetched. There can be hundreds of other plausible reasons.

The whole invited taping of the finale thing seemed a little weird to me. It was announced last minute, then cancelled within a couple of days...they seem a bit indecisive with the reality show.

That's another thing. I hadn't even realized they started filming this reality show. let alone are ready to film the finale! Perhaps they are cancelling the reality show altogether? Who knows and who cares, really. Unless this show is more like a documentary and less like Grease, than I don't see the purpose of it.

So, if they've taped the reality show, it was not based on audience voting ala Grease. I guess it's more like Top Chef. The problem is that if you do it ala Grease - the show ends, then the winner has to go into rehearsals and doesn't hit the stage for probably 6 weeks. The publicity is gone by then. Ideally, the show builds an audience, the winner is announced, and bing bang boom, is appearing at the theatre within a week.
Otherwise, I would think you show the episodes, build the audience interest, and then do a live finale. I wouldn't tape a finale yet with a live audience because the audience neither knows nor cares yet about any of the finalists - and the leaking of the winner is guaranteed. Well, the winner is going to leak out as soon as she starts rehearsals - or her agent's assistant has a beer with someone.

In a nutshell-


They waited last minute to announce they wanted/needed to get an audience. Then they waited to the last minute to tell people they were going to get in. They just didn't allow enough time for the word to get around to enough people. PLUS, people just have no interest in this clearly. Because if it was a mad rush for seats...the show would be going on! Simple.

I don't think there's anything bogus about their reason.
What all these is showing is the incredibly poor and ineffective planning of this TV show. Someone should have put out the notice about needing the audience way way before, and someone should have realized from the getgo that this was never going to work because everyone would know who the winner is the second everyone left the theatre. It's just really bad producing and marketing.

Same with Making the Band, All seasons of Project Runway, top 12 of American Idol, and America's Next Top Model. They all were leaked. So if we the general public know that it could leak very easily...you are telling me that the big time producers didn't until the DAY BEFORE the finale taping was to occur? BOGUS!
