There have been a few people who, like yourself, have had no exposure to John Lennon before, and who go see this show and enjoy a reproduction of an image and some notions that are about 40 years old.
But seeing any show on Broadway is no more a show of support for such ideas as "peace" and "love" as seeing something like Falsettos or The Normal Heart is "fighting AIDS."

I didn't say I was going to this show because I love peace and I love love. I'm going because I think it'll be an enjoyable show with a marvelous cast.

Why do you guys care if they think that Lennon is great, that people should go see it, or that it is about peace? When you guys said that telling people to go see Lennon would not make anyone go see it, tagiunagi proved you wrong, and you continued with the bothering. Whats the problem here?

Yesterday, I met this lady who said she was a big Lennon fan but didn't want to pay so much to see the show.
I told her to find some student and have him get her student rush tix - front row.
And she knows someone who can do that for her.
Go me!
The cast of Lennon comments on the show:
"The difference between this and other 'juke box musicals' is that he actually wrote a musical about his life without actually writing a musical about his life, which is really exciting."
Chad Kimball
"Give peace a chance. That's why everybody stands up at the end because it so resonates today, give me some truth."
Mandy Gonzalez
"Most of the music we sing, I'm singing, and I'm thinking, this is what's happening right now. I honestly can't pick a song in the show that is not relevant to what is happening in 2005 right now."
Marcy Harriell
Julie Danao-Salkin (she likes peace)
"Before I got involved in this, The Beatles were like ..ehh. John Lennon, ok, well he wrote 'Imagine' so I guess it's pretty cool, but you know, whatever. Now, I'm like...this brother was bad!"
Chuck Cooper
"You could tell that [Yoko Ono Lennon] was removed from it in the best sense in that she understood what it was, what it meant to generations before, what it can now mean to these generations."
Terrence Mann
"Sean Lennon, his son, came today and told our director after the show, he said 'it was a very surreal experience, but I think it's what my father would have wanted."
Julia Murney

What's with all the LENNON threads? I smell shill...
i'm only posting about lennon because i love it, and i want it to stay open because i believe that it's a good show that people should experience.
bump!
lennon's grosses went down this week with all the other broadway shows. it's sad.
go see lennon. give it a chance if you can, and you're open to it. people here don't like it, and there's been lots of bad reviews, but there are moments in this show that everyone would love. the cast is so energetic and full of life at each performance. there's plenty of disounts and student rush if you are worried about buying a full priced ticket.
go out there and give lennon a chance.

Personally, I think your enthusiasm for the show is great. But the comments from the cast members are, to me, a stark reminder of the fact that most people in the acting profession make a living speaking other people's words for a reason.
I was aware of it in the publicity for the show too. Those who came of age after Lennon died really sounded vapid in the interviews. Like listening to a 16 year old giving an "expert" opinion about what the soldiers in the first world war went through. Their intentions are all well and good, but, very often, their words are just off.

thanks for accepting my enthusiasm.
the comments were spoken ones...so it's different when people speak and it's put into word, rather than writing out quotes for the press. forgive them if they didn't use scholarly language, but they spoke these words during a party right after their opening night.

You have to admit, spoken or written, "Peace is one of the most incredible words that still exists today..." is really one of the stupidest sentences ever. It puts the "um" in "dumb."
Dare I ask who you quote with that?

Julie?
sigh. One of those things where you try to put into words something powerful, and you just come out sounding stupid.... I hope.

But it's too late because I had cut and pasted it before she did it. Oh well. FYI, I started a thread on the off-topic board so everybody can list favorite incredible words that still exist today! It's fun!
i removed it because i didn't want someone i admire from one of my favorite shows to be mocked like that.
thanks for creating that off topic thread namo. i think it's really funny.

So. Basically you're for peace but against critical thinking?
