I agree. But I also agree with what he said.
(And I'm a fan of the show...what does that say about me? Never mind, that's rhetorical.)

Lennon Rocks!!!
Thanks Cathy for a great thread, and thanks Slacker for words well needed and very well said.
Marguerite, I appreciated all the Lennon quotes.
Hoping to see Lennon again this weekend and I will bring a friend or two who hasn't seen it yet.
John Lennon was definitely a dude who had his head on straight. My feeling is he would be proud of these nine women and men who do such a fantastic job of performing this show. Rock on Lennon!

I agree with you Lizzie.
But I just thought it was TOO perfect not to say that.

I just got a pair of tickets to see Lennon. My director can't make it and gave me her tkts. So I am supporting Lennon. I also saw All Shook Up, so I supported there too. : )
yeah bwayleadman!! way to be!! way to support the cause! woo!

Cathy, that's my point. A show is not a cause.
Why don't you throw a pizza party outside the Lennon theater and tell passersby about the show? People love to be convinced that shows are good over pizza.

Namo - other than the fact you don't like this show, why do you have to be so negative against this thread?
Hey, I supported LENNON by going to see it! I thought it was garbage, but I still supported it!

well thanks for the support munk! even if you didn't like it, that's ok too. everyone is entitled to your opinions. and you did have some good things to say about it. so thank you, for the support.

It's just a little dose of reality. I don't dislike the show, I haven't seen the show, it is not a high priority for me owing to budget constraints and the fact that people I respect have told me what they thought of it and pretty much advised me not to bother. They know me, they know my taste, they know what makes me miserable.
As people may remember, I am a BIG fan of Yoko's and have been a big defender of hers since the moment people started trashing her when the show was in previews. Go ahead, do a search, you'll see.
I took exception to Cathy's saying that the show motivates you to want to go out and protest for peace and love and that if you love peace and love you should see the show. I've been to so many demonstrations in my life and I really truly believe in direct political action. But, and this is a big but, going to see a Broadway show is NOT a political statement, it is not a political activity. It may make people FEEL like saying the word "peace," and you know, that's nice in a hippy dippy way. But please, do not equate that with actually doing the hard political work of agitating for peace and justice.
There are a LOT of really worthwhile causes that could use people's attention. Focussing on saving a not-particularly-successfully-executed musical in a for-profit Broadway theater should not be confused with being one of them.

I think that you have fully made that point now Namo.
Now you are just insulting cathy and this thread.
Cathy will not learn from your negativity, so you made your point, move on.
The show will most likely close again, sadly, and you won't have to deal with it anymore.
Sadly?
Namo, I completely agree with you. Even though LENNON hammers the idea of peace into the audience's brains, it didn't make me want to do anything but leave the theatre and try to forget how contrived and superficial the experience was for me.

On the other hand, I personally have learned a LOT thanks to this thread. The Julie Danao quotes were so fantastic, I feel as if I have a new hero, and I would not have known about the things she said about Mr. Lennon were it not for this thread.
I return to this thread in the hopes of finding more such jewels of wisdom from her. I. Love. Her.

Cathy had an idea for a positive thread here. Those who love Lennon need to talk around the one or two idiots who only came on this thread to spread their negative trash. Obviously they want to be the center of attention here, one has not even seen the show, one writes an overly long review, praising a couple of cast members and then calls the show garbage??? Strange. Perhaps these two have a hidden agenda. Better yet they should get a life.
In any case, let us move on. Lennon still rocks.

LENNON IS CLOSING.
i'm really upset.
boo.
and there's no recording...unless someone has one...
Just go buy some John Lennon CD's. It's not like the music has ever been recorded before.

I guess you did your best Cathy. Although you must be thinking there's one or two other things you might have done to make things work out better. But you tried, and that's what counts.
Fine, NAmo, it's closing. Give it a rest.
who here is going to the show this saturday sept 17th? cause i'm going to both performances that day and i'm wondering who i'll see! we can all cry together.
I'm going with my grandmother to the matinee on the 17th.
I said I'd be at closing. But I really, really can't go that day. This weekend'll have to suffice.
Me too, most likely.
