Saw the NTLive broadcast of this terrific production with Janet McTeer and Dominic West. Could easily see Liev Schreiber in West's place as Valmont. McTeer was priceless.

So with the recent additions, we know the following: 

La Marquise de Merteuil - Janet McTeer

Le Vicomte de Valmont - Liev Schreiber

Madame de Rosemonde - Mary Beth Peil

Madame de Tourvel - Birgitte Hjort Sørensen

 

Any others? This cast is shaping up to be a great one...

Liev is a fine actor, but attractive? No. Not like John Malkovich, Colin Firth (both back in the day), or Ryan Phillippe certainly.

If you think most people would find John Malkovich (of any vintage) hotter than Liev Schreiber, then how can I put this simply?... think again.

Dude, in his day, Malkovich was sexy as fuuuuuuck. It was this strange kind of androgynous ugly/sexy kind of thing.

Liev is a well put together person, but I've never been attracted, you know?

Dude, that's fine. But my point wasn't that no one, least of all you, could possibly find Malkovich sexy. Rather it was that in my experience most people find Liev Schreiber far more alluring than the John Malkovich of Dangerous Liaisons. 

Why do I say this?  Because I know several people who find Liev Schreiber to be sexy as hell. And several people who find And found John Malkovich not at all hot; in fact many who found his casting as Valmont challenging. 

While we are on the subject what exactly do you find androgynous about Malkovich?

Liaisons closes 1/22 (and Significant Other is coming in right after), so in theory she could probably do both since Anastasia doesn't open until 4/24

Kind of stupid to say he's not hot. I mean it's subjective? And I think most of the time, the audience will believe what we're told: i.e. this character is the attractive one in the show, etc.

Anyone else REALLY excited for this production? I've heard nothing but great things from the West End production so I'm pumped to see it on Broadway.

This is one of my most anticipated for the season. I am a HUGE Schreiber fan and I love this play. I went to the box office to get my ticket for the 2nd preview yesterday and the attendant was super friendly and said we were in for a treat. Who knows how much she's been able to glimpse of rehearsals or tech or anything, but I thought it was sweet and really got me (even more) excited.

 

Can't wait!
