"LUZIA takes you to an imaginary Mexico, like in a walking dream, where light quenches the spirit and rain soothes the soul."
That is the sentence that Cirque du Soleil uses to describe their touring production of Luzia and it could not be more accurate!
I attended the 12.30pm performance on Sunday, May 5th in the parking lot of CitiField in Queens, New York. I have seen all of the resident productions in Las Vegas (a few several times in fact) and all of the touring productions in the past dozen years. Luzia by far is one of the best Cirque du Soleil has produced in a long, long time! There were elements of the show that I never would have imagined that I'd see outside of a permanent production like Las Vegas. I do not want to give it away in case you go because it made my jaw drop and a tear come to my eye.
The colors, sounds, production numbers...all worked so well.
OK so you are probably thinking - there has to be a few cons. Yes, I was not thrilled with the juggler in the second act. I cannot juggle so I am not trying to throw shade on him but he did drop his items too many times in my opinion. The other eewweee was the grotesquely thin skeleton of the young male contortionist. He was talented with his number but several people in the audience I noticed looked down/away, closed their eyes and would not watch because they found it that disturbing.
Highly recommend that you catch LUZIA while it is in NYC through June 9th.

I was supposed to see the show in Boston last summer while up there seeing Moulin Rouge! but I can to come home early for a funeral. So glad it's here and it's in my neighborhood.

Is this easy to get to via mass transit? I've only been to Citi Field once but we drove.

The 7 IRT train stops right at Citi Field. It really couldn't be any easier to get to by subway.

I say this with utmost good humor nature. But, I think you may have dated yourself a little. No one calls it the IRT anymore

I suppose you're going to tell me they don't use BMT and IND anymore either? Old habits die hard. ![]()
