I did but my mom told my she didn't want to be up at the top and wanted me to get us the $36.50 seats which is why I asked him(at the box office) how bad the boxes were, if he had said horrible than I wouldn't of gotten them.

Maybe the use of the word "disaster" was too much, but tking001 is not taking this far at all. I'd be pretty angry too if I was told a seat had a decent view, then couldn't see anything at all. Hey, if another poster had success writing to the president of the organization, why shouldn't tking001 at least attempt the same thing? It's worth a shot.
Yes, the guy at the box office mentioned the seats were partial view, but seemed to be misleading about how much of a partial view. The only thing I would've done differently was stay for longer into the show.

"To be totally honest tking, had you done research on this site before rushing La Cage, you would have seen many people said skip rush and buy the balcony seats."
Actually, if you ask anything on this board, the Broadway Bitches are straight on your back because they've got nothing better to do in their sad little lives...

I sat in those seats last week, student rush, and as it happens with my mother. Neither of us had a problem with the seats, yes you miss a bit of action on one side but as someone else said most of the action is downstage centre anyway.

But they wouldn't know that because they only waited 10 minutes.
Box seats are never *good* and, of course, the theatergoer that Tom is, he should have known that.

Posted: 1/18/11 at 7:09amWell quite, and also I'd like to add 'you get what you pay for' in terms of you do student rush you take what you're given-I saw 7 shows in NY last week, if I'd not been able to rush half of them I would only have seen one! So personally I'll take missing a tiny bit of action to actually be able to see something!

I used a discount code at that theater and was given a seat second row on the right side. I was assured the seat was a 'full view' and upon arriving at my seat realized otherwise. The right hand side of the stage was blocked by the box and I could not see the action (exits, entrances and anything else) that happened on the right side. I asked the house manager about changing seats and he rudely informed me that there were no seats available besides the last row of the mezz (and even that, he said, would probably be over on the side). Nowhere on my ticket did it say that the seat was obstructed. Now, I made the mistake of staying. I was just angry over the rudeness and what seemed like a pretty underhanded means of selling me a partial view seat under the auspices that it was a full view seat (apparently whoever makes these decisions thinks it's okay for patrons not to see one side of the stage).
Had I known then what I know now I'd have tried to change it for a future date and a better seat. Now, that said, I sat in the left box the first time I saw it and my friend and I moved downstairs at intermission. We knew what to expect from our seats-we knew they were box seats and most likely partial view. I actually liked the view from that box seat more than the one I had when I sat second row on the side. But for our $36.50, what were we expecting? (I spent more than twice as much on that other seat which was what made me so angry.)
Let the buyer beware I suppose!

The reason why I find this frustrating, and find that Tking is taking this too far is because he is so rush obsessed. Not at all saying that is a good thing. Like others on here, I am in the same boat that if a show doesn't have a rush, I can't go. However, I am aware that rush seats may be the pits of that which the box office has to offer. And, frankly, I am okay with that.
Tking, you can't honestly beg for shows to have rush all the time. Then, when they aren't to your exact taste, leave ten min into the show. To be honest, if I were reading the letter and I worked at The Shubert Organization and saw that, I wouldn't even bother taking you seriously. I would see it as you complaining and not giving it a fair chance. As it was said by others on here, a vast majority of the action takes place center stage. And, while none, if very little of that action takes place at the beginning, you wouldn't have noticed that because you never gave the show a decent chance.
And, with regards to buying the ticket, you took a risk. You can't blame others for you doing so. Whenever you buy anything, your risking that it might not work. Sure, does anyone expect that? No, but is there a chance that something could be defected? Sure, there is. You took a risk at buying a ticket in hopes that the box office guy was right. You disagreed with him. What makes a good seat a good one or a bad one is a matter of opinion. You're getting upset because your opinion is different of that of the guy at the box office.

Posted: 1/18/11 at 11:38amI had the same problem this summer when I was in those rush seats. I knew what I was going into, but they truly were horrible. At intermission I just stood in the back of the mezz (with permission) and had a great view.

Posted: 1/18/11 at 11:57amHeck, I got our tickets at the TKTS booth, so I probably paid 2x as much and they were lousy as well. So funny how this thread exemplifies the BWW dominance hierarchy, just like high school but with people of all ages.

This is a bad example if you are trying to say that he should just let it go, because if you buy something from a store that is defective you have the right to return it.

Posted: 1/27/11 at 1:30pmTking, you're really looking a gift horse in the mouth with this one. You do realize that no where does it say that a show is required to do any sort of rush or lotto. If the producers do wish to set something up, and you take advantage of that offer, then great. However, no one should complain about a rush regardless of what the complain is about. You took a risk with rush and were unhappy. But, you wouldn't have known that all of the action is in the center of things because you never gave the show a chance.

I never quite understood this statement:
When I got there I had discovered that the seats were Horrible and I couldn't see anything.
Over the years I have sat in almost every section of various theaters. Sometimes portions of the stage are not viewable...The extreme upstage area is sometimes impossible to see from a balcony seat, and from a box you miss one side of the stage.
NEVER have I encountered a seat where you could not see anything. Were these seats behind some sort of post?
I always assume if the seats are that cheap they will be partially obstructed.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

That's nice.
Having seen the show recently, I can understand how you felt you were missed out on a lot at the beginning. The first 10 minutes is the La Cagelles performance, and they probably aren't easily viewable from the box seats since much of the performance is either near the wings (with Georges) or near the center/rear of the stage (especially in the first several minutes). I guess if it had been me, I wouldn't have left because I'd just wait it out.
