I rushed the show on Saturday morning for the evening performance, When I went to the box office window I asked the man how the seats were, he told me "You only miss a corner of the stage but otherwise they're great seats". So I paid got the tickets and went to the show that evening.
When I got there I had discovered that the seats were Horrible and I couldn't see anything. I went to the house manager and asked to be re-located to which he replied "sorry we are sold out tonight", I then went to the box office to see if I could get my money back because I was sold such horrible seats without warning, to which the man in the box office replied "sorry no refunds", I went with my mom and we ended up leaving 10 minutes into the show because the seats were so horrible.
My question is who should I write to about this? Im thinking either the company manager or the producers of La cage.
Im thinking since they wouldn't give me my money back, and we didn't stay for the show is it out of line for me to request tickets for a future performance?
What do you guys think I should do? This experience left a very bad taste in my mouth, usually people at the theatre are so helpful.

The same thing happened to me with FELA! I left at intermission because the seats I got during the rush were so awful, it was embarrassing that they even sold them. I couldn't see more than half the stage, which including all of Lillias White's performance. It was painful.

I wrote a letter directly to Jordan Roth, President of Jujamcym who owned the theatre, complaining about the tickets and how I was given little to no warning about how poor the view was, even if they were rush seats.

He responded and gave me house seats for the show and apologized and thanked me for informing him of the flaw and appreciated my honesty.

Maybe I got lucky but, you might as well try!
I guess I was lucky

ILCamper18 said they wrote to President of Jujamcym in regards to Fela! and he got a response. So it stands to reason that writing to the president of the Shubert Organization would be the way to go.

And Brazil weeps as well, Historyboy

Tking,

the way I see it you don't have a leg to stand on on this one. They told you it was partial view and it was. I could see you getting upset if they never mentioned that and you found that out once you got to your seats. However, this is not the case.

Furthermore, this show is offering tickets at around a quarter of the price it usually goes for just for students. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Go there with the realization that the producers of La Cage, or any show for that matter, didn't have to do that.

And, for the record, I do get most of my tickets via rush. However, I never bitch and moan if the seats are too high up or not good etc. I am lucky that I can get them at such a cheap price. And, you know what? If a show doesn't have rush then I don't get to see it.

Yes I do agree that he said it was partial view but he told me that it wasn't bad at all
Ive been to many theatres where to have just that
a seat that is sold as partial view and you miss almost nothing and in those cases its totally fine because as you said Winston you are getting the tickets at a discount.
This however was NOT the case with La Cage these tickets were VERY obstructed.
If the man in the box office had told me they were that obstructed I wouldn't of purchased them.

This thread title is misleading. And to me, leaving 10 minutes in doesn't give you enough time to judge the seat. It was also a box seat, and those aren't always fantastic.

Box seats are pretty crappy in any theatre, so you can't be surprised that they weren't great.

That said, what was obstructed? Most of the action in that show happens towards downstage, so what was missed?

The use of the word "disaster" is quite over the top, but considering the source, I'm not surprised. Maybe "disappointed" would have been more appropriate.

Oh Kalimba. There you go again. Who the hell are you to judge and say what is what? It was a disaster for him. So he can use whatever word he likes.

King.. send the same letter to both. You will get a response.

The President of the Shubert is Robert E. Wankel

I can't find an address to send a letter to him at
I found the Shurbert Organization address but nothing specifcally for him

Should I just send it to the office on 44th and write his name on it?
Or should I send it somewhere else?

I'm sure if you address the letter to him with his title addressed to the Shubert Organization it will get to him.

I think that you're taking this WAY too far.

Why do you think that Winston?
IMO I asked the box office b4 I purchased the seats how they were, he told me they were decent, I got in the seats and they were bad so I went to the HM he couldn't help me and the BO wouldnt do anything to switch the seats or refund so now Im just taking the next step.
If he had told me the seats were so bad I wouldn't have purchased them

tking001,
Your not taking it far at all. It takes a minute to write a straight to the point letter. I had issues with the lack of leg space in the mezz at the Shubert. I wrote a letter and I got a nice response with a $40.00 voucher to use in any of their houses. I wish more people would take the time to complain and write letters when their are legitimate issues.
