I was just wondering, out of curiousity, if anyone knows how old LaChanze is?
In her Broadway.com Star File, she says she was twenty five when she got "Once On This Island." Considering that show opened in 1990, that would make her about fourty three (which I still can't believe.)
According to IMDB (which I know is hardly a reliable source,) however, she was born in 1961, which would make her closer to fourty seven.
Does anyone know how old she really is? She doesn't look a day over thirty...
Off the lips of the great Jenifer Lewis: "...black don't crack!"
I'd say imdb is pretty close, too. I mean, she was playing one of Theo's friend's girlfriends on The Cosby Show in the 80s, so that would put her over 40, at least.
well she is an understudy for deena in the 87 revival of dreamgirls... so she had to be atleast 22
OH MY GOD SHE'S OVER 40!!!!
Holy crap, are you serious? I thought she was in her twenties.
Well, she was Marta in the 1995 production of COMPANY, so I figured she was at least thirtysomething.
She looks much younger than her replacement, Jeanette Bayardelle, but in reality, she's about 20 years older.

How about Sally Murphy - who was 42 when she played 19-year-old Tzeitel in the recent FIDDLER ON THE ROOF revival?
I know to most of this board 40 is death, but really, its not that old...
I read an interview in More magazine last year that said she was 44.

She looks gorgeous as ever.

jeez, thats crazy- she looks like... 25!! Not saying that 44 is old, because honestly its not, but its just... she looks REALLY young! and beautiful :)
BB, I wasn't saying 40 is old, because it really isn't. I just think she looks great for her age.
I didn't know she was on The Cosby show nor did I know she was an understudy in Dreamgirls. She's accomplished a lot. I knew she had done a lot so I thought she was in her mid-30's. She looks like she is in her 20's.
Wow, I had no idea she was in her 40's she looks great!
yeah honestly i would have guessed like 25, and not that 45 (or whatever it was) is old but usually by then you show SOME sign of aging, but she doesn't
40-something? Ancient. She should be playing all the Beah Richards roles.
People on this board love to scream TOO OLD about beautiful, talented successful Tony-winning actresses when they have absolutely nothing else to pick on them about.
I just read the ENTIRE thread, and not once does someone call her (let alone scream) "too old."
What are you talking about? Go away.

I thought she was in her thirties, at the very oldest. She looks good for her age.
I didn't think she was 44 but do people on this board realize she has had a long sucessful career on Broadway, has been married and has children? To think she is in her twenties is clearly unitelligent.
