I'd love everyone's opinion on this. I'm flying in to Laguardia for an eta of 7:00 PM on a Wednesday night in November. I will have a checked bag. Do you think I have enough time to get my bag, grab cab or Uber to hotel on W54th - check-in/drop off bag and hoof it to W50th for a show that starts at 8PM? I'm thinking it may be doable if plane lands on time, but am I dreaming?? Of course it would all blow up if my flight is delayed... but assuming its on time.

Definitely not possible. You're looking at least 45 minutes in the cab alone. And that would be after waiting for your bag and in line for cab.

Not a chance. You have to get off the plane (which can take awhile), get to baggage claim, what for your bag, wait for a cab, get into the city (which would take at least a half hour without traffic), and get checked in. On a good day, I'm usually settled into the city an hour and a half to 2 hours after landing, when I go.

Yeah, no., not even if your plane arrived 30 minutes early, it still wouldn't be enough time. You might get into Manhattan before 8, but you'd never make it across town (from QB bridge or tunnel) or downtown (RFK Bridge) in time.

Luckily this is America and you have every right to be wrong.
You'll be lucky to be out of the airport area before 8PM.

Sorry to chime in with agreement....but there is no way you'd make it. You won't even get to your hotel by 8.
Hope you didn't already buy a ticket!

Especially given you are flying into Laguardia you will not make it.
JFK is bad enough but Laguardia is terrible with traffic. Maybe, in 2022 things will be different.

First...do you have to check your bag or can you carry on?. That initself will save you quite of bit of time, If your flight is on time, that is a biggie to get off the plane and run to catch a cab, If you can get random strangers to share your cab that is going in same direction, you will save on cost of cab. I would not waste time taking the bag to your hotel. I would take it directly to the theater. All of this is durabile, I shared a cab from LGA to theater district and was dropped of at Spring Awakening 10 minutes before curtain. I was still able to get a standing position that late and my suitcase stayed directly behind me. I accomplished this with only a half hour to work with.

To make absolutely sure I can make an 8pm curtain, I want my flight to land no later than 2pm. And with a checked bag? Add another hour or two.

I fly into LaGuardia all the time and I REALLY wanted to give you some positive encouragement, but there is no possible way you're going to land at LaGuardia and make it anywhere for anything within an hour.

You could remove the checked bag and the hotel and it's still impossible.

Next month I'm landing 10ish for a matinee of Sweeney at Barrow Street Theater and I'm worried about my time.

Find something to do that starts at 10 pm ..... too bad Hedwig isn't still open. Maybe some off Broadway thing, jazz club, or cabaret or something.

Even if the plane pulls into the gate right at 7 p.m., when you add up the 10-12 minutes it will take them to hook up the ramp and get everyone in front of you off the plane, the 5-10 minutes to walk to baggage claim, the 10 minutes once you're there to pick up your bag if you're lucky, 5-10 minutes to walk to the taxi stand, 5-10 minutes to get a cab since there will be plenty of people in front of you also trying to get into the city and throw in an extra 10 minutes just to get out of LaGuardia with the construction, it's already 7:45 and you haven't even left the airport yet. I won't bother adding in for the likely traffic you'll hit at 7:45 on a weeknight or the line at the hotel to check in since 7-9 is when most people check in. If you hired a helicopter to pick you up in front of the terminal and drop you on the roof of the theater, you still wouldn't make it.

I feel like it took 30-40 mins to get from LGA to our hotel near TS, and that was with relatively light traffic.

6hrs or 8hrs? You can land at 5 and have plenty if time making it.
As for the OP. No you won't make it.

Thanks everyone! That was a resounding NO!! I really thought it was closer for some reason. It's been a few years since I've flown into LGA. I was really hoping to be able to add another show in, but it does not seem to be in the cards. Not a biggie - might be better to walk around rather than sit again for another 2 hours or so. thanks again! moment of insanity has passed :)

If you'll be up for a while, you can catch the late show at the Comedy Cellar at 11:30. And 54 Below has 9:30p shows, which would be do-able.

LOL...Never now that LGA is being totally rebuilt! You'll get in the city probably by intermission!

When I saw this thread I also went in wanting to give you encouragement, having made many close-call shows before, but sorry to say I actually laughed out loud when I saw the time frame. I think the 54 Below shows are a good idea, though!
As an aside, last summer I was visiting London and were supposed to arrive 11 AM on a Monday, and see Cursed Child at 2 PM and 8 PM Tuesday (the next day). Due to a storm that made us (and seemingly the entire NE United States) miss our connection, we were delayed more than a day and ended up getting to the theatre 22 minutes before the show started. This was after flight finagling that involved redirecting to Toronto, clearing customs, running to the counter, and begging to be put on a flight that left in less than an hour on Monday night. In summary, thank you to Canada Air.
