Lainie has done both Hello Dolly and Gypsy - - - she was marvelous in BOTH roles.
She is a wonderful actress and singer - - and not to mention my friend for about
30 years. She will be honored by the Friars Club on June 26th - - that should
be a fun luncheon. Will let you know- - if interested!

I think Lainie Kazan should take over for Laura Bell Bundy in Legally Blonde. At least Lainie would inject some humor, good vocals and balls in that thing.
or Mama Rose.

Posted: 1/10/08 at 5:08amI love Lainie Kazan- I also think she would be good as MaMa Rose. Not over LuPone, but maybe if it's still running and LuPone wants out. So what if she's had some work done? She is in the spotlight- it's part of her job to look good. Excessive work is ridiculous, (Joan Rivers being my prime example) but a little "tip and nuck" never hurts.

Posted: 1/10/08 at 8:13amKazan DID Mama Rose in a summer tour of the Tyne Daly Broadway version which had many of that cast including the late Barbara Erwin. I saw this at the Westbury Music Fair and let me tell you it was one of the most disappointing evenings of theater I have ever experienced. Her voice had a huge wobble and she chewed the scenery like nobody's business. There was nothing subtle or charismatic or likable about her Rose -- it was all brass and schtick. No nuance and nothing to move the audience. She got many unintentional laughs during Small World when she pulled Herbie's head to her breasts and in Rose's Turn which seemed to be a parody. A real shame, because she clearly had the pipes once upon a time, but I can't imagine she could hold up vocally doing eight shows a week. There is a reason she hasn't had a Broadway show since getting fired from Seesaw.

Ummm... she DID have a Broadway sow after Seesaw - MY FAVORITE YEAR.
I htink she's be a great replacement for Debra Monk in CURTAINS.

Yes she would
I would love to have seen her in Funny Girl. I saw it with Mimi Hines who was maybe closer to Brice than was Streisand.

Posted: 2/10/08 at 4:45pmI don't think Lainie Kazan was ever ON Broadway. She understudied That Streisand Woman in FUNNY GIRL, was fired from SEESAW out-of-town and got canned from a revival of THE WOMAN before it started previews.

She went on for Barbara.
Is u/s not considered "on Broadway"?
She also received her equity card for a regional production of "South Pacific."

It's from an audio interview Stephanie did with Jim Caruso back when the tour was in L.A.
She was talking to him about the stars that came to see the show - that was how she said Lainie greeted her the first time she met her.
She also had a funny quote about Gary Busey greeting her at the Tonight Show by saying something like, " I could lick that green right off your lips." Too funny - he was one of the guests on the show that same night along with... get this, Senator McCain.
Yeah, so just in case you need any further proof that I retain useless information, there it is! haha
Ok, back to the Lainie love :)

For anyone who was at Broadway Backwards 3, I think we can all agree that Lainie Kazan should not come back to Broadway.
She's fabulous on the big and small screens, but singing is... no longer for her. At least it sure wasn't at BB3.

Lainie Kazan should come back to Broadway in a show.
Because I'm dying to see Michelle Lee on stage again.
