Some posted the listings for the Sweeney auditions a bit ago and I remember Lovett needing to play cello or tuba or some odd instrument like that. Does Cyndi play anything?

I would love to see Bernadette be Mrs Lovett.

i heard that Cyndi Lauper, Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone were among those being considered for the role. I'm looking forward to this production, i saw the london one and it had a very unique take on it - all the cast played their own instruments on stage, it would be interesting to see if John Doyle does this again!

I'd love to see Bernadette. I never thought she could pull off Rose and was most happily wrong on that one.

Id love to see what she would do with it. And since she "blew the producers away", why not!? And I think Brian Stokes Mitchell will be playing Sweeney. I cant wait to see this revival its killing me!!

Well, this and ACL. :)

Bernadette would be great also. She was wonderful in Gypsy. I want her back on Broadway so badly!

Lauper would certainly fit this production. And she does play a bevy of musical instruments -- but why am I inclined to believe "Balletgirl" when she says the role has already been offered to someone else...Hmmm...

Personally, I don't think BalletGirl85 should be posting that information here. It just doesn't seem kosher to me...

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Well I always hope people with inside information do post! That's the fun of a message board. And certainly if she does know something, she hasn't spilled anything. Or do you mean not kosher in terms of "not believable?"

I remember seeing Meryl Streep in HAPPY END by Kurt Weill on Broadway in the late 70's and she definitely had the voice to fill a Broadway house. Everyone is miked anyway. Angela Lansbury does not have a big voice, but she certainly filled many Broadway houses.

I would assume...had it already been cast...these articles would be useless. Why would they publicize this if they weren't still casting it? It would be utterly pointless. Which is why I think Lauper is still in the running.

I don't believe one word of it...
Wouldn't it be pretty irresponsible reporting on the part of Liz Smith, Playbill and this site, among various others, to write about something that is completely untrue??? While someone that has called others "Retard" is a legitimate source? Come on, put two and two together. I would think the columnists (they being Liz Smith and others),would have a lot of reliable sources and first hand inside info. re the possible casting of Cyndi in Sweeney.
And anyway, the Seattle production and the London Revival(the Broadway Production), are two completely different stage shows altogether.

Well FOA, the way all PR works, is that Cyndi Lauper probably has a publicist who has spread the story on Lauper's behalf.

As they say in showbiz, nothing is official until its signed on the dotted line, and even if she is not cast, the publicity that Lauper "blew away" the producers of the musical is great personal PR. Especially if she has an interest in doing Broadway -- it could open the door for other offers.

So there are definitely reasons why the story could be making the rounds, even if someone else had been offered the role.

P.S. Liz Smith and company are not saying anything "untrue." All the stories say is that Lauper has auditioned and is being considered for the role. Nothing more or less.

Well I can understand it making the post and Liz Smith.

But, it's also being publicized by legit websites like Playbill.com, which makes me think that it's more than just publicity. (At least, I hope). I would hope she's in the running for this part.

I mean not kosher in that it just doesn't feel right - she can't name her employer or give any other vital information - she seems to only want attention - which she is getting in droves at the moment. To quote one of my favorite lines in Mommie Dearest: "THAT is a LIE."

Please help me,thank u very much!" FOA -- Playbill just picked up the story from the Liz Smith article. They aren't claiming any new or insider information.

And thats true Redhot, though, she could just as well be some little intern.

I imagine we will begin to hear things soon.

Oh and I love that line in MD -- almost as much as "BARBARA PLEASE!"

Although I do agree it is time for Patti to return to Broadway.

I know she's not going to do this production. Just merely stating she's been away long enough.

Exactly..But if you know Cyndi Lauper and her management and or publicist, Cyndi refuses to let any information leak out to the public unless there is legitimate proof of it. If you've been to cyndilauper.com(official site page), Cyndi makes sure all news is confirmed before it gets posted. There is no official word there, so it's a wait and see. But I definitely think the role is still up for grabs and that she may just get it.

redhot, I don't think she's not legitimate because she's not citing her employer. I think that makes her MORE legitimate. She's not giving out any names of cast members either, nor the name of the person she is telling us has been cast as Lovett.

You know that I post certain information about certain shows that I have inside information on, without posting where my information comes from - and you know where I get my info and that it's quite legit. But I can't or don't want to name my source, with good reason.

If it's such a big secret, then why have they reported on casting for the other two main characters. If they have casted the part of Mrs. Lovett, then why not say who it is?
Balletgirl85 is not Playbill, or The Baltimore Sun or The NY Daily News.
For all we know, this person is probably on the laundry crew where she works.

Rath - I don't know how to explain it - call it intuition - but I think BalletGirl85 is a total faker...an attention hog. and that's the last I am gonna post abour him/her.

I can, *Easily* Cyndi L. has the voice, the look the edginess and quirkiness, along w/the acting talent. It remains to be seen how this will all turn out. But if the casting people are smart, they'll take the risk.
