Laura Benanti in Playboy?

I saw a news item recently that, as part of her "Playboy Club" promotion, Laura Benanti is posing in Playboy. Have any other female Broadway stars done Playboy, or other men's magazines or dubious "entertainment" venues?

Bernadette Peters had a pretty fabulous Playboy spread back in the days, she looks fantastic in the costumes. I might have to buy my first Playboy issue now that I know Benanti is in it though!

It was totally Karen Ziemba I'm thinking of, though. I know I have seen the pictures and there's even and old, crazy BWW thread about it.

Yes Karen Ziemba posed and Laura Benanti stated in an interview she would never pose naked for Playboy. If she is in the magazine she won't be nude.

Vanessa Williams lost her Miss America crown because of her nude photos that were published in Penthouse (they were sold to Penthouse without her consent).

Deborah Gibson posed for Playboy somewhere around 2004 or 2005.

Egg-xactly. Benanti is only posing for the cover and will have a featured interview since she is playing the first head Bunny at the legendary (and first) Playboy Club in the upcoming NBC TV series THE PLAYBOY CLUB.

Again... Benanti is NOT posing nude in Playboy Magazine. She is ONLY posing for the cover.

Geez.

But I won't buy it.

It's been a while since I have read an article, I only look at the pictures, are the interviews still sex-oriented? Benanti is too young to discuss the original Playboy Club.

The triple threat Marla Maples of Will Roger's Follies was in Playboy several times.

In fact I just watched a DVD of the pilot episode of Playboy Club and I have to say that Laura Benanti is FAR AND AWAY the best thing in it. She sings a little bit of Chicago (that toddlin' town) right off the top then reverts to acting for the rest of the show.

She plays the "older" Bunny who graduates to the executive floor as Bunny Mother and not only looks drop dead gorgeous but is the most credible and interesting person in the cast. Amber Heard is the lead - the Bunny in distress - and she's fine but the show itself borders on the ridiculous.

Just to give you an idea, old Hugh Heffner himself narrates part of the show in an I-remember-when mode but then the Young Hugh Heffner appears in the midst of the action with his back to the camera like they used to play George Steinbrenner in Seinfeld. Only in this they don't mean it to be funny.

The heart of the show seems to be to find excuses to have lots of beautiful girls in their underwear in the dressing room. If that's your thing you'll like it.
