Why id Laura Bell Bundy not in a musical at the moment she was fab in LB

She was merely "good" in LB, I wouldn't say "fab" as that gives the idea she was transcendent in the part. She wasn't. The role needed someone of Reese Witherspoon's talents (the movie wasn't necessarily better than the musical, but the star seemed to bring the film's enjoyability up to her level). I hear in London, where the show ran three times longer, they had an Elle who was transcendent.

well that was announced yesterday . . . what is her reason for the last 4 years? I know she was starting a country music career, but since I don't listen to country I wasn't paying attention to how it well that went

^^ You kind of just answered your own question, then.

She has been spending the last few years working on her country music career; writing songs, recording and producing an album, filming music videos, and then promoting all of that with concerts, appearances, tours, etc.. It takes a lot of work to jumpstart a non-exisisant career.

Also, depending on her deal with the record label, she may have not been allowed to explore theatrical opportunities. Who knows.

As stated, she was persuing a music career and getting/trying to get work in TV. She moved to LA for it full-time.

Also, people act like if you starred in one Broadway show you can just call your agent up and say "Hey, revive Funny Girl for me!" Patti Lupone has said after Evita her agent wanted her to sit and wait for the next big offer and claim's if she did that, she'd still be waiting. Maybe she has auditioned for a million things and hasn't gotten them. Maybe she hasn't.

I do hope she comes back though, she is a hard-working performer and talented, if not Jan Maxwell-level. :)

LB wore her out mentally, physically and emotionally. It's a tough role. Plus she stole Broadway's sweetheart's husband. It was better she just leave the area.

Well, apparently she just booked a series regular role opposite Charlie Sheen on his show, Anger Management...

Just saw her in an old COLD CASE with Adam Pascale about a murder while doing CABARET. (spoiler: the pianist did it).
And she was in a few HIMYM's.
Maybe she and Michael Arden can duet on ANGER.

She was drummed out of Broad-WAY for having an affair with Christian Borle and hurting out dear Sutton Fostor which is a crime!!

That was satirical. I'm guessing her recording career takes precedent. Or maybe raising a family outside of New York?
