DAMN IT! My father got us Spamalot tickets for early January, but it turns out that we'll be out of town, so we sold them...And now its finally worth going.
Whatever happened to class?

Supposedly, they WANTED to cast an African-American or Hispanic actress. They instead cast the original "Shiksa Goddess"!

Wasn't that mentioned for the tour, as opposed to the Broadway production?

Kudos to Lauren!!! She's an amazing performer and she'll make this role her own...and it'll be great! Too bad she won't be touring with JRB anymore.

I guess I'm glad I'll be seeing her this Saturday with JRB, since she won't be doing it much longer. I'll be interested to hear her (which I haven't before) and talk to her afterward to say congratulations.

Its about time that this show gets someone who will be there on a regular basis.

As much as I love Sara, it will be cool to see someone else in the role.

Am I the only one who doesn't see her in that role? It's a very interesting choice indeed.

Maybe it's that not enough people are that familiar with her work?

Hooray for Lauren! Hope I get a chance to see her in the role!

I'm not really familiar with her work, per se, but I'll give anyone a chance!

Can't stand the show, but will force myself to go back to see one of my absolute favorite divas in action!

I saw her go on for Emily in SideShow and to be honest, I have NEVER forgotten her...She and Alice Ripley were astounding. I am thrilled to be able to see her once again on Broadway and hope this will open many new doors for her! Congratulations and best of luck!

Yeah, whoever mentioned the African American/ Hispanic thing, that is what they supposedly want for the tour. They already have two "ethnic" actresses involved with the role on Broadway: Rosena M. Hill (Standby) and Emily Hsu (understudy.) Not that that means an ethnic actress couldn't play it on Broadway... I was rooting for Hill. I hope she goes to the tour.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

WOW...well, I'm assuming from her reputation that she's very talented, and will try to forget the matinee of Les Mis I saw a couple years ago where she sounded, um, not too good...I'll just assume she was sick or something.

I'm a little disturbed by this choice. I love LK to death and think she has a brilliant voice, but I'm not sure she has the comedic chops for the role. She's also not particularly brassy and I don't think she has the right kind of belt, albeit the wonderful belt it is.
The upside is we know she'll always show up-- as she was always there whenever Emily wasn't in Side Show, which was more often than not.

I may have to go see the show again.
I just accompanied Lauren Kennedy last Monday for my friend's radio show in Boston (Standing Room Only for those who listen, haha). She did mention that she had a future "project" that she couldn't mention, and I guess this is it. She's an absolute doll and I think she'll do well.
I can't believe I'm considering seeing the show again, haha.

I'd actually go see the show again, just to see her! Congrats for Lauren.
If you really want to help the American theater, don't be an actress, dahling. Be an audience.....
Don't be taken in by the guff that critics are killing the theater. Commonly they sin on the side of enthusiasm. Too often they give their blessing to trash...
