This may be off-topic but Mick Jagger slept with over 4,000 women.
He also slept with David Bowie, Rudolph Nureyev and Eric Clapton and turned down Leonard Bernstein.
And, Robbie--he did that all without the benefit of craiglist.
Carry on.

Well, I know what I would do if the show I walked out on was in midtown. I'd go right to a few of my favorite video boutiques on 8th Ave and put on a show of my own.

I only left a show once. It was the tour of Young Frankenstein (second leg after the stars left). It was dreadful.

What do I do with that extra hour? Oh, I don't know, do something I find more enjoyable then sitting through a sh*tty show that I don't enjoy: eat and ice cream, take a walk, window shop, masturbate…Countless things. That is a serious answer.

I have only left 1 production before, and that was a Youth Production of Anything Goes- they decided to update the book with lots of present day references like cell phones, Facebook and Ricky Martin!
I like to be informed about what is out there, and its just me, but if I leave a show at intermission I only know half of what I need to know about a production and/or performance.
I agree that her Act II performance is stronger than it is in Act I- I also have always enjoyed Act II of Evita the most. I also am in the minority of people who actually really enjoy this production and her performance.
I guess I just feel you are short changing yourself by leaving0- even if you are not enjoying the show, you still are watching a live Broadway performance and that beats just about anything else I can think of!
Food for thought...

Yes but weren't you a bit surprized when the second half had corn?

Lol, diva!
I never had any issue understanding Roger when I saw the show last month. I thought she was entrancing in the role, and any lack of "belt you tits offsinging" was made up for by a nuanced Eva with a beautiful arch start to finish. It's the first time I've ever seen "Don't Cry fro Me Argentina" make partial sense as a lyric. I had more issues with Martin's mannered and confused Che.
It's still a beautiful production of one of my favorite musicals. If I want to hear Patti LuPone I put on the CD. Roger's Eva is something entirely different. I even liked her vocals that seem to be the equivalent to a dog whistle around here.
It's a shame you left at the Intermission. The second act tops the first. Roger's rise and descent is beautiful.

And Mildred...to that end, that may be where some of my problems lie. Again, I was completely green going into the show. Never listened to any recording of the show period. It may have been a simple case of me not liking the show as a show to begin with regardless of who was playing Eva Peron. I just wanted to give a show that MANY hold near to their hearts. I will say this about Elena ...she most certainly had a fiery energy and was a hell of a good dancer. But it seems that in my immediate need to discuss I've touched a sore nerve. Haha
anything you do let it come from you and it will be new.

Not knowing the show, I think you were doing yourself a complete disservice by leaving half-way.

Is Elena really that bad? I talked to a friend that was at Evita last night and saw someone walk out in a rage at intermission because she "hated the person playing Evita". I have tickets to see Elena in August and now I am getting worried! Is it normal for people to walk out in shows? Or does it just seem to be happening a lot with Evita??

With all things being equal citygirl..go see her. Everyone's opinions are different. Mine is far from an end all be all. You could end up loving her completely :)

It depends on the show. I don't think people are leaving in droves.
Elena (as well as the production) seem to be dividing audiences. Some truly connect with her, others not so much. I saw the alternative and wasn't impressed with the overall direction of the show.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I can imagine it being a performance that people talk about--pro and con--for years.
I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

citygirl.grace - If you friend was at last night's performance - Wednesday 8PM - they did not see Elena, they saw Christina DeCicco. Christina is the alternate for Wednesday night and Saturday matinee. I am really confused as to why someone would walk out on Christina's performance - she doesn't have an accent at all and actually belts the lines that Elena doesn't belt.
Please do not take the Elena bashing to heart - give the production a chance. Do familiarize yourself with the Patti and Mandy version as that is the icon to which all productions of Evita will be compared. People are being very ignorant and rude towards the actors and musicians in this production by walking out if they think it's not like 1979 all over again. "On the Balcony of the Casa Rosada/Don't Cry For Me Argentina" at the top of Act 2 is breathtaking and usually wins over those who didn't like what they saw or heard in Act 1.

Also, doesn't the OBCR recording come in the kit you get when you become a show queen? I can't imagine not even knowing a bit of the score going in. I hope you give the score itself a chance, at least, Rob. It's worth visiting, even if it's not your cuppa.
