They have officially announced the UK cast for the Broadway musical transfer Legally Blonde.
As speculated Sheridan Smith is Elle Woods, Duncan James is Warner and the fantastic Alex Gaumond is Emmet (more cast to be announced soon)
The site is also updated with a few pics of Sheridan and Duncan in costume

I wanted to get seen for the show, but didn't! *CRAP*...but hey, still gonna go see it and love it! And now that it looks like we've got an Elle who will shine I'm crossing everything I have and hope it will run for years!!!

That I DO agree with! How about switching theatres, Phantom 2 will sell no matter what and would do well at the Savoy, and Blonde would sell out the Adelphi without any problems!
Now I'm looking forward to find out who they've cast as Paulette, and I'm thinking (and hoping) they might not go for a big name (Duncan has got a name recognized by most people here in London)and instead cast someone who can sing the part as good as Orfeh or Natalie Joy!

I think Paulette needs to be well cast or it would harm the show.
I think the Savoy would be to small for Phantom 2, and its also to small for LB (at least the Broadway Production)
Its just such an ugly theatre too and i hate that it has no Marquee space

You are right! Not having a marquee (I wouldn't call the tiny little Savoy-board-thingy a marquee) could actually harm the show.
Songandanceman2, do you know when they'll announce the full cast, I assume they've finished casting?

Posted: 4/21/09 at 9:36amIts actually still ongoing for a lot of the ensemble but i know most is done, it wouldn't surprise me if the rest of the cast announcements are months away yet.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 9:48amSadly no, after getting through the 1st few auditions i then got tonsillitis so was unable to sing grrr, on top of that im doing a play my company is producing now so i guess it wasn't meant to be.

^Sheridan Smith is awesome. She was Audrey in the most recent London revival of Little Shop of Horrors.
Here is a video of her on West End Live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jENE70zHNA&feature=related

Posted: 4/21/09 at 5:20pmIt could be the animated touch on the pictures but she looks a little old for Elle.

Sheridan Smith is cute and HILARIOUS! I adore her in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. Here is a great TV spot on Little Shop with some fabulous clips of Sheridan.
PS - I don't think Sheridan looks a day older than Laura Bell Bundy. Younger, if anything.

If you compare the original Broadway homepage picture to the London homepage picture... Sheridan looks older.

I think she looks sultrier, but not especially older. And the LBB picture looks far less realistic. I don't even think the Broadway poster looks much like LBB at all. The two photos used entirely different editing finishes.
Interesting fact: Sheridan is actually two months younger than Laura Bell bundy.

The Savoy interior is certainly not ugly but a beautiful Art Deco building. I suppose if you don't like Deco it may not be to your liking but ugly it is not.
It has also managed over 80 odd years to host a great many successful productions. Most people who book for shows don;t actually pass the theatre, they buy online or on the phone. The Strand is hardly an out of the way location.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 5:40pmWell, Broadway made LBB look younger for advertising purposes. If that is going to be the picture of Sheridan that is used...people aren't gonna look at Elle and see a Harvard student... Sheridan looks more like a professor with her smile and the style of glasses on her head.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 6:09pmI've never seen a Tracy Turnblad on stage that looked like a teenager, but then, I never expected it. I have a feeling people will look at the poster and determine that the lady in pink with the chihuahua is probably the person playing Elle. it's not that big of a stretch nor is it challenging in any way. And given that Sheridan is pretty firmly established in the public eye in the UK, the advertising seems entirely appropriate. Other than a few episodes on a soap opera, Laura Bell Bundy was hardly known by the public when she took on Legally Blonde, so enhancing her appearance on the poster was less of a concern. At least they didn't hide Sheridan's cute figure behind a stack of oversized books.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 6:14pmSheridan does NOT look older. She looks much more attractive than whatever that creation was on the Broadway posters. (I remember reading this was NOT Laura Bell)

Posted: 4/21/09 at 6:15pmWell I have, Marissa Perry. Laura Bell was heavily known... she was a child star and in some popular movies and shows. Offending Laura Bell's figure which is far from unattractive does not have any relevance to her looking younger than Sheridan.
