Just got back from this evening's performance of "Legally Blonde". The show itself is pure fun and the score might be bubblegummy but still has some decent tunes. Jerry Mitchell ensures there is never a dull momemnt and Laura Bell Bundy proves her status as a leading lady.
Tonights show was a great example of why people enjoy theater: it is live and anything can happen. Before they broke into "Bend and Snap", LBB bent to show Orfeh (Paulette) the move and she snapped so forcefully that her wig fell off her head. She cracked up and made a joke about being "legally blonde", and the audience was completely rooting for her. She replaced the wig and was a trooper and did all the remaining "bend and snaps" with one hand on her wig. Kudos to LBB for keeping the crowd on her side and going with it. Several people gave her a standing ovation at the end of the song.
All in all, Legally Blonde is certainly a fun show and a jolt of energy and is worth seeing. Sure, its not groundbreaking but the people I went with loved it, and although I almost hate to admit it, I did too.
I would have LOVED to see that. What a fabulous slip up story!
I also give Laura a lot of credit for having fun with it. It sounds like that's what she did in SF when her shoe flew off into the audience.
And then, also tonight, the whole set piece from the courtroom scene (the judge/witness stand) just failed to appear. So that entire part of the show went on, with very funny improvisation from Jason Patrick Sands. Also, the actual toilet/judges stand set piece from the bathroom scene was MIA. All in all, a very funny show to be present at.
wow, that sounds hilarious about the wig! so did it completely fall off (like on the ground), or just come really loose? thats funny, and really cute how LBB handled it. haha, funny mental picture of her doing the song with one hand on her head :)
glad you had a great time!
thats really funny. i wouldve loved to see it tonight.
Haha! Good for her. Reminds me of when I saw The Apple Tree and Kristin was tripping all over her whip. I guess that's where that saying comes from, the one about the show going on. Gotta love live theatre!

That's cute! Hearing from the shoe story in SF, she handles mess ups very well.
I saw a local production of Thoroughly Modern Mille where Millie's wig fell off after she had been mugged. She made a joke like "Oh, you're stealing my hair too? What is it with New Yorkers?" and then put it back on and went on with the scene. It was pretty funny.
It seems like Laura Bell is very good at covering mistakes without missing a beat. That shows how comfortable she is with her character. I would love to see her ad lib something, I am sure it would be hysterical.
Haha CATS! That would've been funny if that happened on Broadway to Sutton when she was Millie.
Back in her WICKED Standby days, she was teaching Idina how to do the hair-toss and she did the whole Kristin routine with "Or you can use your hand... OR use your whole body" to which she swung her hair forward and it got in her face and she went "Or don't because then you mess up your hair and look really stupid". Aww, Laura Bell.
RadioTV2, I don't think you shouldn't admit to have liked it.

when I saw the show back when it was in previews LBB lost her shoe so one would think that if it happened in San Fran then the problem would be fixed by the time it hits NY. i mean its not a hard problem to fix. and i am so jelous i wish i was at last nights show!
Damn. Wish I could have been there.

The shoe problems have been fixed; all shoes have the requisite elastic strap now.

I'm a little suprised she wears a wig.
Even though her own hair looks much like how it is in the show, its easier to just have a wig. You don't know when someone will have a bad hair day.

True, and I guess it makes everything easier for the u/s and standbys.
