I am stuck with the choice of whether to see Legally Blonde or Les Miserables this September. I already have tickets for A Chorus Line and Spelling Bee and would like to have your opinions on which show to see. I was planning on seeing Grey Gardens or Company, but those are not possible anymore. Thanks for the input!
For the record, my favorite show I've seen was The Drowsy Chaperone. I've seen Chicago, TDC, POTO, Wicked, Rent, DRS on tour, Aida on tour, and The Producers on tour.

I saw both myself, these two musicals really can't be compared. They are two totally different types of musicals.
Legally Blonde is just a fun show. If you like amazing dancing, flashy sets and costumes, you'll like this show. But it's very, I don't even know how to put it, much of a chick musical. It's funny, but I'm not totally crazy over it. It does have a great cast, though.
Les Miserables is just wow. This show is a classic, it's amazing. But you might be into these kind of shows. It's kinda dark. They do have nice sets, but it's not colorful. It's a drama, very sad. But still, Lea Salonga is playing Fantine, amazing. And Megan McGinnis is Eponine now, and she blew me away. She's very good. But it's also about history, and it's easy to get lost if you don't know the story that well and can't understand the lyrics as this show is completly sung. And there is hardly no dancing.
So, it really depends on what you like. If Drowsy is your favorite show then you would probably like Legally Blonde better. I love Drowsy as well. A Chorus Line is a great show too. I was almost crying in that show, it's very touching.
Just think about this: Do I want to see a colorful show with lots of dancing and funny songs, or do I want to see a dark, drama musical with hardly no dancing but with an all star cast.
It's really more what you perfer.

It really depends on your taste and mood ! Les Miserables is a piece of musical history, a hugely popular show with a great message and wonderful epic music ! I think a true musical fan must definetely see it, at least once ! And the story is known from the book !
I haven't seen Blonde, but it sounds like a colorful, happy, FUN show with great happy music ! And the story is known from the film !
Depends on what you are in the mood for, but whichever you choose, have fun !

My first instinct was Legally Blonde...but admittedly only because I myself haven't seen it and would like to, whereas I've seen (and yes, loved) Les Miz numerous times. So clearly if my rationale is based on not having seen a show, I probably shouldn't be recommending it, should I?
So I agree with those here who say go with Les Miz if you've never seen it. It's not a perfect show and this isn't the perfect cast (though I think they're fine), and certainly it's less "fun" than Legally Blonde...but like it or not, by now Les Miz is a true part of the musical theatre canon. You kind of can't go through life not being familiar with it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Posted: 8/7/07 at 9:00pmI appriciate all the opinions! I think I'm going to take DramaLady's suggestion and get tickets for LB ahead of time and try TKTS or rush for Les Mis. Each show has different things going for it; Legally Blonde would be with (mostly?) the original cast, and Les Mis is...well, Les Mis. A must see for any theater fan. Thanks again!

Les Mis:
reason 1: Drew Sarich
reason 2: Lea Salonga
reason 3: It's Les Mis and Mis is awesome!
Blonde sounds like fun too though, but DO NOT miss the opportunity to see Drew Sarich perform.

If you saw the original production of Les Miz, don't bother with the revival. It PALES in comparison.
I'd say Legally Blonde.

Eponine, while I can't say, seeingf how I haven't sseen LB, I can go with three different reasons to see Les Miz.
1. Drew Sarich
2. Drew Sarich's "Bring Him Home"
3. The end note to Drew Sarich's "Who Am I?"
Plus, the other replacemnhts, namely Rob Hunt and Megan McGinnis, are stellar, to say the least!

With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-

Posted: 8/7/07 at 11:40pmI love Legally Blonde, and it makes me feel all warm and gooey on the inside, but bottom line is: Les Miz is just more lasting in the world of musical theatre. Both shows are entertaining, but Les Miz has messages, powerful emotions, and an enormously talented cast that is not to be missed.

Legally blonde- its the most fun you can have with your clothes on lol
Les mis is very dated now and the revival is weak in comparison to the original production.
