This may be the first time I've ever heard the Legally Blonde score compared to Chicago or Wicked. I can't think of any similarities between them.

Never has someone told me that "Blood in the Water" is one of the best numbers in the show... who is this woman?

I don't think "Blood in the Water" is the worst. Okay, I think it is one of the worst when I'm just listening on my Ipod, but live it isn't so bad. But the best? Hah.

Since it's the Baltimore Sun, is it funny if I type "Yes, Virginia, there is a bitchy theater critic"? I don't think it is, but I'm doing it anyway.

True. All of it. Just about every single word.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I don't mind a bad review, but I don't have tolerance for a mean one. "Legally Blonde: The Musical ran for 18 months on Broadway by trading on audiences' fond recollections of the film." That's just not true - audiences adored the show for other reasons. THe reviewer had some true and good points to make, but it got bogged down in all of the snark.

Despite valid points, there was just too much "Look at me, I'm clever because I can carry a hair motif." There was one review who said about the Broadway show that it doesn't matter what he'd write, because the show's main audience wouldn't read it anyway. THAT was spot-on. I also feel liek this critic didn't say anything positive or engative about teh portrayals...Gulsvig brings a mix of vulnerability and confidence...is that good? Or oto mcuh like Reese?

While I liked the show a bit more than this reviewer, I would agree that "Legally Blonde" wasn't all that good.

I also have never heard anyone single out "Blood In The Water" as a great song. Most people I know think it stops the show. I agree with many of the reviewers points. Legally Blonde is a theme park show for tween girls and tween gays. I enjoy some of it, but as a confection, not a well constructed musical.

I miss my city . . . but I'm glad the SUN hasn't fallen for the vapid crap that is Legally Blonde.

I chose, and my world was shaken. So what? The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.

I saw Legally Blonde on July 1st 2007. It was the final Original Broadway Cast performance. It was wasDeQuina Moore 's final show.

I think that this thread is pointless. All it is being used is "The reviewer's a bitch! etc." from the people who like the show, and "The reviewer is totally right! etc" from the people who didn't like it. What else, do you want to say? I do have my opinion of the show, but I don't want to add to the bickering. I'm sorry if anyone is offended, but that is how I feel

While it isn't the best show ever and it certainly has it's weak spots it isn't as bad as the reviewer made it out to be. Blood In the Water a standout??? Really?

Living near Baltimore, I read this in my paper this morning. I think she's wayyyyy off. Yes, there were no songs in the movie. BUT this is a MUSICAL VERSION.....
while it may not be a show that will be remembered forever, it is still one of my favorites and deserved a better review

and "Blood in the Water" is best --- and "Ireland" should be skipped????
maybe she saw a different showww

I don't agree about "Blood In The Water", but I agree with what the reviewer said about "Ireland". That number stops the show in it's tracks, and not in a good way. I know that Paulette has to have something to sing, but IMO, they should have kept the duet between Elle and Paulette in.

Why are people getting so upset? It's just a review? I doubt it'll affect ticket sales for the run in Baltimore. I myself am going to see it on Saturday. It's not like Blonde didn't get a few any negative reviews when it opened in New York.

BTW, I thought it was funny that the score was compared to Chicago and The Little Mermaid, both of which are superior to Legally Blonde's score. However, I'll take the score for LB over Wicked's any day, as it is much more tuneful and memorable than Stephen Schwartz's score. I am surprised that the reviewer didn't mention LB's book, which is my biggest problem with the show.
