re: 'Legally Blonde- The Musical' -Savoy Theatre London 2009

24, straight, female (so target market, then) and absolutely love the musical version (and the film, too!) Can't watch the film now without expecting songs to kick in. If done right, this will be great. I'm taking a group of thirteen to see this on the 16th December.

...oh, and I do have a totally ridiculous, unexplainable thing for Duncan James, so I am biased, but I think he'll be okay - and Warner's not even the lead bloke role, so not to worry on that front!

The box I'm in dear will be the Royal Box and you ain't invited into the ante room for interval frolics.
I'll probably end up staying there for act 2 as i will struggle hard with act 1!

Personally I think Sheridan Smith will be awful. I know she has a decent voice, but she doesn't have the personality, or the looks to pull of the vain, camp, OTT personality that is Elle Woods. As for Duncan from Blue, OMiGod - he's going to be awful.

I think you should give the show a chance scripps, dont just judge of the cast recording.

And sheridan more than has the looks and the voice for this role (she is far more attractive than LBB) and showed of her great comedic talent in Little Shop

As for Duncan, hes playing a dull, lifeless charachter....he will be fine

I heard the cast CD and then saw the MTV telecast and the whole thing seems so packaged as to be off putting. I thought the opening with the quick changes etc was good but after that the whole thing went downhill fast. I had never seen the movie but I could see where the story was going - there are no surprises in the show. I think for a musical of its type to succeed there has to be a few "out of the blue" moments - in both story and staging. This show offers none. I still say six months (eight tops).

uninspiring material + wrong theatre + no name cast = flop.

Personally always liked Duncan, always come accross as a decent guy, and in this interview i have to say he handles himself really well and think hes brave for doing this. Harder to admit being Bi than it is gay I would say.

regarding the show, although the cheap previews have sold well it will be after opening that will be its big test. I agree with everything 'alterego' says. Always loved the film of Legally Blonde, but (like Shrek) adding songs adds nothing

I loved the film as well and dont normally like those kind of films and i was ready to hate the musical but i think it does its job well.
I think the songs enhance the material, and whilst it does have some duff ones in there (like most musicals) i think the music is pretty spot on for the kind of show it is.

OhMiGiod is perfect and catchy to stay in your head forever, Serious, What You Want, Positive, So Much Better, Whipped In To Shape, Take It Like A Man, Chip On Your Shoulder, Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde remix are spot on for this kind of storytelling and this kind of show.

The reviews for Broadway were very good because even the critics who probably also had the knives out had to admit that the whole thing is just fluffy fun, but very well written fluffy fun.

The book is OK, not the best, but the book its based on and film were exactly the same, its not the big ending (everyone can see that coming a mile of) that we focus on, its the fun getting there.

I have to say i think the book also has some of the funiest moments in as well.

The London one is actually selling very well.
Also the no name thing is absurd.
The age group etc (young girls, gay guys, students etc) are gonna know who Sheridan Smith is as she has not 1 but 2 huge sitcomes (2 Pints Of Lager and Grownups) and the West End crowd know her from the raves she got for Little Shop Of Horros.

Duncan is also a big name and hes band are getting back together not long before LB opens so he will be getting a lot of attention.
And remember the Broadway Production had a no name cast and did very well, the tour has a no name cast and is doing HUGE business

The theatre is not the best but i dont think it will do it any harm, its not like the show is in the middle of Twin Peaks, the company will end up going all out with its advertising.

Its also found itself one of the only Major musicals to be opening at that time of the year.

I know some dont like the show and thats cool i can totally see why, but please think about what your saying.

Mamma the London well IS seeling well (its not gonna set the box office on fire) but its doing fine

Its previews have done huge business and the 1st 3 months are nice and steady (though it is strugling with its Matinee performances)
