I heard somewhere a while back that there was some sort of legal case in LA. The outcome of this was that Phantom or any Webber show for that matter cannot be done in LA.
The main reason why I said Phantom is because that is the only show of his that is touring in major cities.
Anyone have any more info on this situation.
Can it be postformed?
It can't be performed in LA for the same reason Spamalot and Jersey Boys can't -- they have or will have Vegas productions.
Considering we just had the tours of JCS and Evita come through, I would say that maybe it's not true.
Jersey Boys was just here, though. The Spamalot tour wasn't allowed to come here even though the Vegas production didn't open for nearly a year after the tour did.
Yes, but Jersey Boys can't come back to LA for the duration of the Vegas run. That's why it was hitting all the CA stops so close together.
Phantom is coming to Sacramento in May 2008.
It is a contract between California, Arizona with Las Vegas, Nevada
It is called a non-compete clause. The producers agree not to tour their shows for aq certain number of years. That is why Las Vegas never got Lion King, Wicked, and other tours, because they were playing in Los Angeles or other cities close to Las Vegas. This was the first time that the clause was used that made the other cities not have the tour of a major show. It is usually Las Vegas that is at the other end of the deal. In fact Phantom never came to Las Vegas due to the clause.
I believe the cluase is off and it was only for Phantom, that I know about. It supposedly is over as many cities in California are now getting the Phantom tour.
I do not know if any other productions are affected as I think Mamma Mia! and Spamalot both stopped in Los Angeles. I think The Producers is under the clause.

If anyone wants to know, I believe the last stop in CA for Jersey Boys before the Las Vegas run stars in 3 weeks in Costa Mesa. And I believe it's by the SECOND national tour.
What is the differece between 1st and 2nd national tours? Is one better?
The second national tour opened up because the first national tour kept extending its booking dates in San Francisco because business was phenomenal. Eventually it extended into the dates of its next engagements, and a second national tour was formed. I believe the second national tour continued the San Francisco run while the first went to the other cities on its scheduled tour. I believe the second company has left San Francisco, but are returning for another engagement 'round Christmas.

With Jersey Boys, the 1st national tour is the company that is doing all the engagements on the tour. The 2nd national tour did continue the run in San Francisco after the 1st left but they became the company that is doing the sit-down in Chicago. San Francisco is actually getting a new cast (rumored to be the Vegas cast) for the holiday engagement.

Listen to mll85. :)
Many successful shows have had more than one tour running simultaneously -- it just seems more confusing these days because really, when these previous multiple tours were running, it was pre-internet and people lived in blissful ignorance.
"...they became the company that is doing the sit down in Chicago"
What is meant by the term "sit down"?
When I saw this thread, I immeditately thought they had combined Legally Blonde and Phantom into some odd hybrid musical masterpiece.
Gypsy, 'sit-down' basically means a permanent production. Like Wicked in Chicago and LA, and the Vegas productions of Phantom and Spamalot and soon to be Jersey Boys.
Clumsy Dude, I thought the exact same thing. I was kind of excited.
Clumsy, me three. Totally creepy idea.

Nikki Snelson leads the Phantom in a heavy jump roping workout down in the bottom of the Paris Opera House.

It would be a bomb, but I'd love it!
