Wow. Just saw this tonight and it made me fall in love with Les Miz all over again. I wish I could come back to New York and see it again and again (like I used to!).
Bradley Jaden. I don’t even know what to say. For me, Javert was always a one note character, just a grouch with an axe to grind for no apparent reason. I always used to just sit and wait for “Stars” to end bc it was dull, at least to me. His suicide seemed to drag on forever (sorry spoiler alert from 1985). BUT TONIGHT! Bradley Jaden made me feel for Javert; I had compassion for Javert and saw that he was a conflicted, fractured human being. Not only that, the Confrontation brought tears to my eyes and had me gripping the armrests with excitement to a scene I’ve sat through countless times. Then his suicide? Ugh. I had to fight the urge to run up to the stage and tell him he’s loved. Bradley Jaden’s Javert broke my heart. I want to see him star in a romantic comedy, as the villain in a superhero film, and heck let’s find an old phone book and have him read from that because I’m sure he will make it an edge-of-your- seat thriller.

Christian Mark Gibbs was definitely the best Enjolras I’ve ever seen. Another exciting, passionate performance from a strong singer.

Now there were a couple things I did not enjoy tonight. The Thenardiers had a TON of added dialogue “I hate you no I hate you more” type of stuff. It was dumb and it didn’t fit the tone of the show.

P.S. did I miss Gavroche’s death? Did they skip it bc I swear I just saw him die with the rest of the students. I wanted to get up and yell stop stop we somehow skipped Gavroches death! Everybody go back and take it from the top of the scene lol.

I was worried about the audience but other than the mom behind me who had to narrate THE ENTIRE SHOW to her daughter, the audience was perfect and clearly very big Les Miz fans. Before the show at intermission, all you hear is “well I saw it in London a few times and then I saw it in New York a few times too” lol. I wasn’t too mad at the mom because she did make a very concerted effort to whisper quietly.

the biggest problem is that I won’t be seeing it again but if Bradley ever does anything in New York I’ll be there with bells on.

saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Boe was fantastic and Jaden was equally fantastic. Overall i thought the casting was great (although the girl who plays Eponine does this distracting squinting thing...), the voices soared. The show filled the huge room visually and sonically. It was great to hear the score sung live with such great voices. The audience was really into it.

Saw this last night. Loved it. I’m not even a big Les Mis fan, but this concert was so well done. So many amazing voices. So much talent. Alfie is so powerful. Production fills the stage. Can’t imagine there’s a bad seat anywhere. Audience was well-behaved and many were dressed up. Nice to see. They even stage doored. Really sweet and patient, signing and taking photos. Overall, an A+ night.

Saw this tonight (7:33 first downbeat, 10:20 blackout), and it was quite good. Not an entirely full house at RCMH, noticed some empty seats around me. Tough venue to fill up.

Score is fantastic as per usual, orchestra absolutely crushed it.

Killian Donnelly was my Valjean, I liked him but ultimately preferred Ramin in the 2014 revival. Bradley Jaden was Javert, and his "Stars" got a partial O... perhaps the best-sung of the inspectors in recent memory. The amount of spit I saw from him during his final sequence makes Jonathan Groff's saliva look like child's play. There was big-time anger and urgency from him throughout the night that I felt was somewhat absent from the rest of this cast, save for Christian Mark Gibbs as a rousing Enjolras. LES MIS has always been a melodramatic piece, and the more anger, defiance, and urgency, the better, in my mind.

Lovely Cosette, meh Eponine, kids were adorable.

For a concert version, the staging and design elements were a mixed bag. The gunshot laser lights were a fantastic touch, but the lamps seemed more of a distraction. Liked the choice to have the dead individuals rise from their seated positions towards the end of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables."

Why in the world are the deaths of the revolutionaries rushed? Aren't Gavroche and Enjolras supposed to die separately if I recall correctly? Unforgivable sin.

Kudos James Dolan as well for the excellent new sound design and mixing that his Sphere uses now too.

Three Days More to see this one, people, go but don't overpay. I don't ever see this coming back to Broadway, but I do look forward to the inevitable Encores gala presentation far in the future.

I was there last night as well. Exceptional sound and lighting. I noticed a couple of the cuts, nothing that bothered me all that much as a Les Mis fan. Orchestra is highlighted and wonderful. Very much a concert staging, but a very well-considered and satisfying one, staging-wise.

Ok Cosette, Barks was fine as Fantine, I quite liked the Eponine.
Fine Marius, spectacularly voiced Enjolras, beyond adorable Gavroche.
Lots of ad-libs from the Thenardiers, but I thought Lucas killed it.

Killian Donnelly was very good but didn't blow me away as Valjean. But Bradley Jaden as Javert... holy crap. Stars was the moment of the night, vibrant character arc throughout, exceptional singing throughout. Kind of think he was a total revelation in the role.

I've loved the show since I was in it in high school 20 years ago. Sobbed throughout tonight. I thought it was really really celebratory, an absolute joy, and unexpectedly emotional.

Price wise- when tickets first went on sale, they were obscene, didn't think i would see this. Checked again last week, seats in the top mezz for weeknights were a more reasonable price, I went to the box office to save on the fees and think this ended up being up a pretty good deal (ultimately paid $59).

Gonna be a slight voice of dissent here. I thought Bradley Jaden gave an EXTRAORDINARY acting performance as Javert, but I just did not like his voice type as much. I prefer Javerts with a lower natural voice, and there were also times he seemed to get a bit nasal. His act 2 performance was incredible though, and the Suicide was an absolute highlight of the show to me.

Similarly, I think at times Samantha Barks's chest voice also felt like it sat a bit lower than usual for Fantine, though she made it work, though at times I Dreamed a Dream sounded a bit too much like pop belting for my taste (though this was something that I felt happened intermittently throughout the cast). Killian Donnelly made a wonderful Valjean and I think really let his spirituality shine through, though it also occasionally felt like the placement of his high notes seemed a bit shaky (not sure if it was a slightly off night for him or not).

The students were all fantastic, and in particular I felt that I understood Marius's conflict in act 2 quite a bit more. Matt Lucas was enjoyable as Thenardier, but I felt Marina Prior really shone in their scenes, so I'm surprised to find she had been a Cosette before because she just really seemed dialed in to the specific humor required of that role.

Overall it was fantastic to see this show again. I hadn't realized there would be cuts so it was a tiny bit jarring to me when they happened, though I agree it was nothing major (I always miss the introduction to Master of the House though). I thought they did a good job with the minimal staging and lighting, and the sound was fantastic, though the "3D" sound effects and lighting during the battle scenes made me feel a bit like I was on a theme park ride. What a joy it was to hear this score again, I now wish I had made a larger effort to see the touring production when it was out.

I caught this yesterday. I’ve always had a soft spot for Les Misérables and the sheer bombast of it all. That said, I was a little let down by what I saw here.

The orchestra sounded incredible - loud, lush, and crystal clear. The cast was perfectly serviceable and sang the score well enough, but no one really stood out to me.

I think the biggest issue is that when you strip away much of the spectacle, staging, and blocking from a show like Les Mis, the pacing starts to suffer. The show definitely dragged in places where I’d never noticed it dragging in any of the countless productions I’ve seen over the years. Without much happening visually, some of those stretches felt surprisingly long.

That said, it was still a nice afternoon, and it’s always a treat to hear this score played by a full orchestra. I suppose I was just expecting a little more.
