I saw this production on Teusday and it is absolutely wonderful. Truly, the entire cast is fantastic--perfect. I had never seen Les Mis before and this production made me absolutely fall in love with the show. Though I felt the second act was a little long winded-- I still enjoyed almost every bit of the show ecspecially the cast.
However, try not to get tickets on the Mezzanine-- the National Theatre has a swooping cieling, so you are directly by the cieling and there are these large things that hang by your head really closely. And it also obstructs the view of the stage.
P.S. I have a question about the plot. Do Valjean and Fantine know each other previous to her incident? I first thought he was her baby's daddy but then I thought he was having an affair with her? When he saves her, is that their first meeting?

Neither! (Though if you look at Liam Neeson and Uma Thurman making googly eyes at each other in THAT movie...er...never mind.)
Cosette's biological father is a law student named Felix Tholomyes, who abandoned Fantine. Fantine was 18 when she gave birth to Cosette.
The only mentions of Felix in the musical are during At the End of the Day and I Dreamed a Dream, but he's neither named nor is a lot of detail given.

On the Les Mis site they kept stressing that each city was the last chance to see the show in that city. An early post in this thread also mentioned it being the last time it's in DC.
What exactly does this mean? They won't be touring Les Mis ever again? Or just the last chance to see them in the next year or two? I'm a bit confused.
It's my favorite musical, I saw it in Louisville,KY in 2001 and have been wanting to see it again. Is this year my last chance?

Ask Jason Moore.
The "Les Miserables" tour is slated to end in 2006, but Mr. Moore says that it might live on in "some form." Where it is not going is Las Vegas, where "Avenue Q," "Phantom of the Opera" and "Mamma Mia!" have found a permanent home.

wow! I had no idea... that makes me sad.
It looks like Cincinnati is my only chance, it's a 4 hour drive for me. Unfortunately, I don't have any friends who like Les Mis that I could get to go with me.
**sigh**
Thanks for the link to the article. I appreciate it.

Posted: 12/11/05 at 1:03pmWhatever happened to Tonya Dixon as Fantine? That's who I saw, both times. But I echo what everyone else has said; absolutely worth it. You just don't want to miss Randal Keith.
re: Les Miserables Tour#41
Posted: 12/11/05 at 2:16pmI saw David as Valjean and he was really good. Another standout was Fabio Polanco as Thernardier, and Melissa Lyons was also very good. She has a great belt, and so does Joan Almedilla, so I'm not sure where you heard she can't belt lesmisforever.

Tonya is playing Gary Coleman in Avenue Q in Vegas. She left this summer.
Joan Almedilla, so I'm not sure where you heard she can't belt lesmisforever.
Maybe from nearly everyone who saw her in 1999 or 2000.

Posted: 12/12/05 at 2:26amI don't know how I could be any "more observant" because the last time I saw the tour was in February (I can't afford to see it that often- I have only seen national tours twice- once in Baton Rouge- Les mis- and once in Shreveport- Les Mis. I have never been to New York). And how could I be observant when I'm dealing with the affects of a major hurricane and my life has been torn apart? I just think it's really mean to say that my reviews are worthless just because I didn't know a particular person had retired from the cast. Just try not to be so biting... I cringe when I read most of your postings because you can be mean to people.
re: Les Miserables Tour#44
Posted: 12/12/05 at 2:31amIt was some Canadian girl's website who had reviews up- I don't remember her site, I have to look it up sometime- all my files were lost due to the hurricane- but she said that she had a great voice but it "annoyed her" that she couldn't belt. I've never seen her- I was supposed to see it in October because it was coming to New Orleans but then Katrina came and turned our lives here upside down. I guess I'll never get to see her and verify whether or not she can belt because I don't have the time or the money to travel to see the tour.

By the way, some of the cast members do have CDs out- I have Leslie Henstock's and Randal Keith's- and they are quite good and worth the price. The only thing is I wish Leslie would have sung something from Les Mis! I love Leslie's voice... it's so clear!
I am a bit sad Tonya Dixon is no longer touring. I saw her in Shreveport and she signed my program- she was nice. She had a great voice. She was especially good in "I Dreamed a Dream" and the arrest sequence, although I am still bothered by the cut in "Come to Me" (it's such a beautiful song!!!!!!).

How am/was I supposed to know that?
Besides, the observancy I was referring to was the fact that you apparently didn't notice that in this thread (which isn't all that old, BTW) that I had already included several links to cast members' sites, two of which include very up-to-date touring itineraries.
I cringe when I read most of your postings because you can be mean to people.
Other people's oversensitivity is not my concern.

I saw the show when it was in KC.
Randall Keith was phenomenal. We had an understudy for Javert (don't remember who) but he was awesome too.
Eponine was good but I liked Sutton Foster in the role better.
Enjolras was excellent
Marius & Cosette - Good but nothing special.
I can not stand Joan Amidalla as Fantine. I had to sit through her performance on the tour in 2000 and I hated it then. When I saw she was playing it for this performance I was dissapointed but figured maybe she just had an off night the first time I saw her.
Nope. Still horrible. The woman cannot act to save her life. She constantly lurches around the stage and is always starring down into the orchestra pit. Her voice sounds like it's just about shot - and she still can't belt any of the parts she needs to.

If he was short, it was Pierce Peter Brandt. If he was tall, it was Trent Blanton. :)
re: Les Miserables Tour#49
Posted: 12/12/05 at 3:09pmI guess I'm in the minority here with Joan. I was sitting far away so I couldn't really see her facial expressions, so the acting part may be true, but I loved her voice.
