I've barely experienced the show (I've watched the 10th Anniversary concert and listened to the OLC a few times), but listening to Hathaway's "I DREAMED A DREAM", it is so sincere and 'acted' that it is so much more satisfying than the way I have heard it in previous recordings.
To me, this is the equivalent of Bernadette or Glynis Johns acting SEND IN THE CLOWNS vs an over the top opera singer performing a vocal exercise.
(To be clear, there is some impressive belting by Hathaway still, I think. Particularly because she is not peaking too early/giving a one-note performance in the song that when she does the effect is stronger).
I doubt this sincerity could have been achieved without a live recording, but the quality of the vocal recording on this album is very much lacking (well, it's quite frankly awful. The mix with the orchestra sounds particularly awful!!!)
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.
