The first time I saw Susan Boyle I thought she looked like Joan Plowright. Guess Broadway beauty aficionados don't think much of her either.

Does every woman on Broadway have to look like Kerry Butler, Megan Hilty, Laura Bell Bundy, Bailey Hanks, or Amy Spanger? Not that there is anything wrong with them...

Susan Boyle has suffered from horrific media overexposure at the hands of Britain's Got Talent, but has kept herself together despite the huge and sudden invasion of her privacy.

I think she could take on a role in a classic such as Mame, where, surprise, the two leading characters are older women... OMG, who would write a show that doesn't star a blonde waif?

Guess someone should tell Nathan Lane and William H. Macy to stay far away from the Broadway stage... Oh yeah, I forgot, the "Susan Boyle Beauty Standard" doesn't apply to men, right?

I don't think any of the posters were actually talking about her looks. The point has been made AGAIN, that if she were an attractive woman with average social skills, she would not be getting the kind of attention she has garnered. Her singing is good...maybe even very good...but she is not the next best thing.

WHY would we be casting her in ANY b'way shows? Does anyone know whether or not she can:

1. Act?
2. Sing more than one song at a time?
3. Move on the stage gracefully?
4. Perform any sort of choreography?
5. Sustain the type of energy necessary for EIGHT shows a week?

We dont' know any of these things. So let's not give her a job quite yet.

There are probably a dozen similar women in any town in the country. It's just the media have got hold of this one and she is willing to be hyped to high heaven More fool anyone who believes she has anything like a unique talent!

I think the original question is what roles Ms. Boyle might play, not her ability to do so.

Whether she is actually capable of performing on Broadway is another story... Who knows? None of us do. The possibility may even be nil...

Based on her affinity for show tunes, and her popularity, it's fun to speculate what roles one can envision her doing.

I think the powers that be with Les Miz are thrilled with Susan Boyle. I read somewhere they have re-launched a CD because of her.

I congratulate Paul Potts, Ms. Boyle (and other femmes d'un certain age) for having the guts to go for that brass ring.

I'm not reading into this post as seriously as some of you- noone knows if she can act etc. and who really cares right now? We aren't actually casting her in anything. it's just fun to hear what people think about what roles we can "type" her into. So I'm gonna say, "Jack's Mom" in INTO THE WOODS.

Exactly my thoughts. I think she has a lovely voice and an obvious preference for show tunes. So why not just assume that she can act (after all, this is just pretend) and come up with some roles she'd be suitable for?
