See? It's not just Americans. ANYONE will do things JUST to make a buck.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Miss Thorn in RUTHLESS! (Okay, that was Off-Broadway.)
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the most obvious:
Ruth in PIRATES OF PENZANCE.
Just about a perfect fit, in the Patricia Routledge mold.

UHM, am I the only one that doesn't think she's all that wonderful? Her "I Dreamed a Dream" does not even come close to many of the women who have played the role. Her age is striking, but Aundrea McCardle and Alice Ripley are right up there with her.
I know, right?

Maybe Madame Thenardier? Maybe that's who the Les Miz producers had in mind. I could see that.

Glinda from Wicked, of course.

I know some of the producers from the London Les Miz production were interested in her, although I'm not sure for what role.
Really? You don't know what role?

I think Susan Boyle is well suited for, and could easily handle, the part of Rona Lisa Peretti in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
She could go on a national tour and a lot of people that want to see her could do so.
