True Colors could be really good if done the right way. Perhaps a la Sunset Boulevard.

color me retarded but i think Silence of the Lambs could actually work. ¤shrug¤ good thing i don't produce musicals.

i'm wondering how Almost Famous would work. or Jerry Maguire. i could see Jerry Maguire turning into something wretched like Big. Where some girl or some gay guy wants to write to us all about how a straight guy falls in love in song formats and then gets it WRONG WRONG WRONG.

There actually is a musicalization of Silence Of the Lambs. Ran at the Fringe here a couple of years ago. Favorite moment: Hanibal's ballad "If I Could Smell Her CX" - with, I kid you not, a dream ballet!!!

For some reason, I think Adam Guettel would do a brilliant job with Taxi Driver. I'd love to hear an urban, jazzy score from him.

This thread becomes more and more painful everytime i come into it.

The only one of these I would be excited about at all would be Almost Famous simply because the music is so central to the story in the first place.

Tell you the truth I'd rather see more musicals turned into movies and not the other way around. I'd love to see a really bizarre experimental adaptation of Assassins done by the Coen Bros or Oliver Stone. Something nutty like that.

Ok, please tell me you're being sarcastic about Birth of a Nation.

I'll throw a sleeper to get started. A lovely oldish (same era as "Millie" and "Mary Poppins") movie called "The Happiest Millionaire." Fun score (by the Sherman brothers, I think) and "Grey Gardens" has shown that people will come to a show about the rich-rich.

To Wong Foo......you know it's coming. That movie was made to be a musical. And whoever plays Noxzema is winning a Tony

It could be the REAL "Springtime for Hitler."

I think Bullets Over Broadway would be excellent.
Here's the cast I'd do:

In the leading male role (David): Hugh Panaro perhaps, or maybe Norbert Leo Butz
Helen Sinclair: I see Christine Ebersole or Beth Leavel
(It's a truly juicy role for either lady-very funny!)
Ellen (David's girlfriend): Julia Murney or Sutton Foster
Cheech: Don't know..someone big and brawny and baritone
Olive: This is tough-she's got to be so annoying it hurts. Jennifer Tilly had this down. Not too sure. Megan Mullally's too old.
There's my primary casting. I think Michael John LaChiusa or Andrew Lippa might do a wonderful job with this. It'd be a great, fun show to do.

"A birdcage I plan to hang. I'll get to that someday. A birdcage for a bird who flew away...Around the world." "Life is a cabaret old chum, only a cabaret old chum, and I love a cabaret!"-RIP Natasha Richardson-I was honored to have witnessed her performance as Sally Bowles.

"What's Up Doc?" - Barbra Streisand's triumphant return to Broadway. Co-starring:

Megan Mullaly as Eunice (the Madeline Kahn role)
Austin Pendleton as Austin Pendleton
Nortbert Leo Butz as Howard Bannister

Desk Set- I really want to see something Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn like. Even The Old Man and The Sea would be a refreshing change, though that perhaps is too dramatic?

Something mournful without being too tragic that wrings your heart out but doesn't make you want to puke. Or smart and funny but full of class.

Spidey the Musical- no just kidding but I believe that is true?!?

Anything Hannibal will do, great drama but to music? Humm...

Austin Powers, I can imagine.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith- begging for some song and dance here.

Lord of Illusion-something Clive Barkerish for Halloween

In the Mouth of Madness-John Carpenter? Insanity is always
funny. With Sam Neill reprising his role. He was stellar.

Broadcast News-would make an interesting musical too.

DOA- had a great soundtrack and interesting storyline

Feel free to steal my ideas, as outlandish as some of them are.

Michael John LaChiusa could do something fun and quirky with Closer.

Call me nuts, but I actually think BAMBOOZLED would work as a musical.

I think Maeve Binchy needs to be represented on Broadway, so I'll go with a musical based on her book and the film "Circle of Friends".

For those who liked James Joyce's The Dead, I would recommend "Remains of the Day". It would be a more moody musical with several power ballads. I'd cast Michael Cerveris and Sutton Foster.

I think American Beauty would make a GREAT play. It was originally going to be one, but Alan Ball changed it to a screenplay instead.
