re: Lets Put This Whole Dreamgirls Business To Rest

Don't let this person put you on the defensive. He/she has yet to give us any of his/her credentials that entitle him/her to this nasty, superior attitude.

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

Jennifer Hudson singing "Easy to Be Hard" on the Hair CD is Jennifer attempting to imitate Jennifer Holliday doing "And I Telling You".

I feel like her riffs don't come from any place.
They are ALL recreations of Holliday's AIATY inflections, growls, glissandos, and the like.

A little disappointed in this casting..
Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

Leander, I'm hoping the powers that be in this case hook her up with the best acting/singing coaches. She has the raw talent - she just needs to be guided and find her own voice and style.

I know what you are talking about. I was just commenting on your idiot comment about how white people don't understand black gospel.

re: Lets Put This Whole Dreamgirls Business To Rest

uh . . . yeah you did. I think YOU need to re-read what you said.

"You gotta love white folks telling black folks about black gospel music.."

You are saying that to have any say in whether or not a black singer is screeching or growling, you need to be black.

I just did a search on whateverman's posts. They're all just nasty attacks on other posters.

Stop giving it attention and get back to the topic of the thread.

Rath is right, dont bother engaging.
Every discussion ends up with potty mouthed comments.
How come this poster is still here?

BTW, Whateverman, what happened to Monica Michelle Sims? You announced that SHE was cast as Effie...you were so proud of her.

And who could forget your announcement that Whitney "cracky" Houston was going to be in The Wiz.
