"I can't stand this musical because some people like it more then others!"
Did I say that? No.
If people don't like the book or the music, that doesn't leave much else? And since that's all BKLYN had (as there was no dancing, and the set was also featured at the Nederlander in a better way)....there's the reason I gave it 2/10 stars.
I hope in Mark's show there is a song called, "Thank G-d for Ramona." Cause if there was no Ramona, I would have given it 1/10 stars for a few OK songs and for trying.

"but why this guy?"
I TRULY think it is because BKLYN was about his life. When it failed, he must have decided to take another approach.

I loved the costumes...I loved the props...also the music...

The play is fully funded, but a script has not yet been written. It is funded on the idea. It's not a play about the homeless, it's a play about what it took for one man, at one point homeless, from a small town to get his play to Broadway. It's about the struggles, the triumphs and the bull**** one goes through for some sort of success.
Mark is not trying to be honored as a great composer who deserves a play in his name. He was approached by creatives and investors who saw the potential and ran it by him.
What should he do say no, especially when he's out of work again? Anyway, he's giving it a shot. Will it suck? Time will tell. But he's trying something different for Broadway and although some hate "different" that is what it just might be.
It won't be Billy Crystal and God Willing it won't be Suzanne Somers, but hopefully it will be worth the effort, see it or wait for the reviews and make your own choice.
Most of all keep an open mind, we all take chances and he's just pursuing life and taking a chance again.

Beaverhausen: You may be on to something! Actually, someone IS doing a documentary on Mark.
the Mark S. musical will be off Bway, so doubtful it will cost as much as $75 to $100. But $6 - $10 is definitely better, true. But undeserving is in the eye of the producer in this case -- if someone is willing to fund it, as they apparently are, why not create the show?
I don't know why y'all are pre-supposing that this show will stink. (I'm just asking, I know it's hard to tell tone from just reading). There is always that possibility, of course, with any production. Is it b/c you didn't like BKLYN the musical and your assumption that BKLYN is autobiographical? Other than the fact that he was homeless and performing for money at one time and the characters in BKLYN are too, how do you suppose BKLYN is autobiographical? It may be, I for one don't know, but I do know something about Mark and from what I know, he's not the "Taylor" character. Even so, any writer can have a flop and a smash.
Trombone, interesting, thanks for the info!

Beaver, you did say "re-staging" so I thought that you meant a BKLYN re-staging. My bad if that isn't what you were saying. But your point is well taken that if people think it is a re-staging, those who didn't care for BKLYN won't go.

Beaverhausen, in response to your post at the top of the page, is your only defense to call bklyn fans 14 year olds or hint at how young you think we are? That's pretty weak. There is no need to attack emo_geek or any other bklyn fan on this board if you are not provoked (which there is really no reason for you to be). If you don't care for this new show then DON'T read the thread and DON'T post on it...it's really quite a simple concept.

I've had enough.
Going to bed soon.

So, by me simply saying that I don't see a need to bash BKLYN and anything it might be related to, that makes me fourteen years old again? I know many people older than fourteen that have had worse reactions to things than the so-called "fourteen year olds" on this board. Reactions, on a message board, mean nothing.

If this guy gets a musical then by God I get a musical!

I just honestly don't understand why the average person would want to see a show about a homeless man who created one of the biggest flops in the past couple of seasons?

"one of the biggest flops in the past couple of seasons"
I don't think so.
Just from this past season...
Dracula was a bigger flop.
Good Vibrations was a bigger flop.
Little Women was a bigger flop.

I'm sure that if it was anyone but Schoenfeld, you'll want to see the show.

Thank you - Sum. Someone obviously can understand my statement.
Tiny. If it was a musical about the true great composers of our time. A few examples would be..
-Leonard Bernstein
-Cy Coleman
-Sondheim
-Kander & Ebb
If it was about any of those men - I would see it. They were brilliant men who have created some of the best scores Broadway has ever heard. Schoenfeld can't even hold a candle to any of those men.

Well OK. Just don't see it. Don't go and buy a ticket.
Now can you please stop bashing a show that was just announced to be in development? Some other people may like, or even love to see the show when it opens in the Spring of 2006. I, think Mark is a genius. Thank You
