re: Lisa Brescia to standby Julia Murney in WICKED

I would really like to hear Lisa's performance, especially her WAI and DG! Whatever it is, I'm sure it has to be better than Julia's... re: Lisa Brescia to standby Julia Murney in WICKED

I'm so curious to hear how she was. This is one situation where I wouldn't be disappointed to see the stand-by for an actress I really like; I'd love to see Lisa at some point.

yankee_fan907: most people are not happy to see understudy slips fall out of the playbill. emcee was just saying that she wouldn't be upset if Lisa was on for Julia when she saw the show.

I am a HUGE fan of Lisa Brescia, but Julia Murney is a fantastic Elphaba, so whoever is on as Elphaba for the next few months will not disappoint the audience.

I absolutely love Julia Murney, so I'm saying that since I like Lisa so much as well, no, I wouldn't be disappointed were she to be out that day. If I didn't like the understudy, then in normal circumstances I'd be really disappointed not to see Julia. Hypothetically.

ETA -- thanks, WAT. re: Lisa Brescia to standby Julia Murney in WICKED

Why the Julia bashing? She is the best Elphaba I've seen live and very sweet at the stage door. Some people... He/She has probably not even seen Julia live.

I disagree as well. Julia is a wonderful Elphaba both acting and vocally.

I disagree as well. I found Murney's performance completely thrilling. She brought humor, depth, heart, and pathos to Elphaba that has been unparalleled in anyone else to play the role thus far (not to mention her resounding vocal ability.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

True - I have never seen Julia live, but I have seen many videos of her various performances, and I kept wanting to try to give her a chance, but I never like any of them at all. To me, DG makes or breaks the show, and Julia's never did it for me. It is interesting and different, and I give her props for standing out, but to me it is not in an enjoyable way. I watched the backstage video of her, and she seems like a very, very wonderful and nice person, but I just dislike her portrayal of Elphaba. I've heard many people who share this opinion as well...

Well I wish I was rich enough to get tickets to see everyone in shows and smart enough to convince my parents to bring me to shows everyone weekend, but unfortunately I'm not, so I have to judge performers based off of SEVERAL videos - not just one, because they could be having just a bad day, but many. When you can hear someone is absolutley amazing on a video, why can't you also hear that you dislike a performer? This is a perfect example: I discovered Eden as Elphaba and thought she was AMAZING and then went to see her live where she was just as amazing, but I've seen videos of Julia, and I just don't like her Elphaba...

*BUMP*

Anyone see her? Reviews? Thoughts?
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)
