Anyone know of a web site where you can just listen to songs for free?
www.xsao.net used to have a lot!
But they deleted their Broadway section.
http://www.accuradio.com
they have all kinds of channels entirely devoted to showtunes.
Or you can simply listen to our own BroadwayWorld.com Radio:
https://www.broadwayworld.com/radio.cfm
Which is also accesible from the Main/Home Page, and you can also listen to Seth Rudetsky's Broadway Chatterbox show on certain nights.
or you can actually buy cast recordings to show your support of the genre...

Well some of us are college students who aren't lucky enough to be able to afford all of the broadway cds that we want. I support the genre in so many other ways.
I consider "musical" to be a medium rather than a genre. It's just far enough out that it'd be unfair to lump it in with all other types of music or film.
teh_pretty I just checked the accuradio.com website and I am amazed how many channels there are devoted to showtunes. Thanks a lot!
I went to see Evening this afternoon, and they played the first act finale from Legally Blonde before the movie began. I loved the movie, it's a beautiful, delicate work with an amazing cast. I was surprised to hear music from a Broadway show before it started.
BTW, first matinee on a holiday is a good time to go. I was the only one in the theatre.
At the movie theatre I usually go to, nine times out of ten as I'm walking in or out, they're playing something from Wicked in the lobby. It's so strange to hear Defying Gravity out of nowhere.
If you get an account on www.last.fm then not only is there a slightly creepy online record of what you're listening to, but also - once you've taught it what you like - it'll be more than happy to play music it thinks you'll like for you. I had quite a nice playlist going this morning after I told it to find me some stuff than was similar to Adam Guettel. Okay, the stuff wasn't similar to Adam Guettel (apart from the stuff that actually *was* Adam Guettel), but it was showtunes and I enjoyed listening to them all the same. ^_^

For college students there is Ruckus.com which allows you to legally download music for free and they have a good amount of showtunes.
