Hello. Not sure if this belongs on this board or Off Topic. I was just made aware that there is a Little Shop of Horrors DvD that has an alternate ending. I'm trying to track down this DvD. I guess the alternate ending is a little more faithful to the stage ending with Audrey II triumphanting over Seymour. Is it worth purchasing? Does it have Audrey's reprise of Somewhere That's Green?
Ebay has it, but its pretty expensive. I could not find the alt ending version on Amazon.

It's short and not much worth it. Personally the broadway album version of "Dont Feed the Plants" sounds better (revival).
The movie soundtrack, I believe, also has this song on it.

The DVD with the alternate ending was accidentally released when the movie first came out on DVD.
Geffen quickly had the DVD re-designed without that footage. However, not before a handful were sold.
It is very hard to find. Sometimes it is on Ebay.
I'd love to see it. I think LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS -the movie is one of the underappreciated movie musicals. I personally put up there with the great stage to screen adapations.
It's on the forbidden site in 3 parts.

Wow!!! Thank you Mandi!!!!
Personally, I'm enjoying Babylon HS's rendition more
When the DVD of the musical version of THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS was first released, the Special Features section contained a black & white working print of the original finale' to the film, which followed the original stage version's ending. This ending was replaced with the version seen due to test audience's reactions -- they didn't want to see their beloved characters all die, etc.
Hours before the store street date of the DVD's release, David Geffen ordered an immediate recall on the DVD because he didn't authorize the inclusion of the black & white working print of the original finale' to the film. He stated that he intended on releasing this sometime later BUT in it's original full color version, etc.
As luck would have it, tons of these DVDs had already shipped and managed to make their way into consumer's hands and some store shelves before being stopped. I'm lucky to have been one of those who got a copy during this.
Also, in typical David Geffen form...his full color print of this finale' has yet to appear anywhere.

Isn't it time for some anniversary DVD special edition release?
Or..If I'm going to "keep dreaming" How about a theatrical re-release.
I WANT A REMAKE! using the musical ending though

Holy cow. I just watched it and I am IN LOVE. Changing it to a happy ending was a freaking crime.

Warning to those who DO see the alt. ending footage: it looks pretty choppy. You can definitely tell it's a "working print" if only in the soundtrack i.e. "Don't Feed The Plants". But, my oh my, it's worth seeing for the last scene alone!
For some bizarre reason, even though I liked the happy ending in the film, I really would have liked if this was used instead
And YES PLEASE, how about an anniversary DVD or something. It's 21 this year, so why not??
I personally thought that the Happy Ending destroyed the movie's cautionary tale. I mean come on, it's OK to kill people as long as you say your sorry at the end and everything will be fine?
The happy ending was horrendous.

It's interesting, even though Seymour does all these bad deeds for SOME perverse reason I (and probably a lot of the audience) wanted there to be a happy ending. I have no idea why
Logically, it should be / have been the alt. ending
it should be the alternate ending without "audrey 2 takes new york"
Does Audrey sing the reprise of Somewhere That's Green before she dies?
Wow! Loved the alternate ending! A nice homage to King Kong and Godzilla. Wished they hadn't listened to the preview audiences, as this ending is much more satisfying.
Little Shop of Horrors: 21st Anniversary Drinking Game Edition. There's a gimmick. You could throw a drinking game track onto the DVD (Whenever the plant says "Feed Me", two shots.) AND release the bonus footage.

I actually liked the happy ending better, for the movie anyway. I liked how they did the sad ending but it was a little to dark for me. In the show it's good but for some reason it didn't work on film for me.
I agree with WalkOn, it is very underappreciated movie musical.

My favorite part of all this is that Geffen demanded the new ending shot long after the movie was "done" and had been seen by test audiences--all the sets were gone, the cast had dispersed. So they had to build a quick set (that's why it looks so fake) and reassemble the cast--except! One of the Urchins had disappeared. So that is why you see Urchin one, the camera begins to pan and lower--urchin 2-- and the camera drops so you only see the shoes of person #3. They had to use a stand in cause they couldn't find that urchin. Makes me laugh every time.
I also liked the happier ending in the movie better, but it was interesting to see their interpretation of the real ending for the big screen.
how did the film do in the box office? how about reviews?
Yeah that urchin stand-in was one of the gaffers' girlfriend
Little Shop did very well at the box office when it opened and was one of the few movie musicals of the 80's to have done so
