Sorry for the exclamation point. I am listening to her 1989 album "Results" right now and it brings back such wonderful memories.
The earlier post about FOLLIES made me put it on, but I don't really need a reason. It's my weekend music and the dog loves it too because he always gets treats when Liza is in the house.

David 10086: "That album should have been a monster hit in the USA."
Liza Minnelli's "Results." Released by Epic Records October 1989.
In total agreement here. I was stunned when I first heard it, and I love it to this day.
One big factor in its failure to sell more copies in the US was the refusal of MTV to air any of the fab videos Liza made to promote it (particularly "Losing My Mind" and "Don't Drop Bombs"
. Those videos defined the summer of 1990 on Fire Island for me; they were shown EVERYWHERE.
And those two songs, in addition to "Love Pains", always filled the dance floor, as I recall.
I had a boyfriend who wept when I played the album's best ballad, "So Sorry, I Said." "It's so beautiful," he'd say. No disagreement here.
Radio played "Results," but marginally. They could (or would) not get past Liza's Broadway pedigree. Their loss.
The album was a big hit in the UK and it has a cult to this day internationally.
I spent $200 via Ebay on a limited edition DJ-created San Francisco remix CD, around 1991, I think it was. Since then, "Results" has been officially, professionally remixed and reissued (along with the videos on DVD in a spiffy--and pricey--package).
It is one of Liza's crowning achievements, and she should have been Grammy-nominated (and won).
I agree with you about Dusty's "Reputation." I have a compilation CD with that song and other PSB collaborations. I think it's called "Reputation and Rarities."
It's interesting to imagine a PSB project with Miss Ross.
But PSB, for me and many others, scored on all cylinders with Liza Minnelli and "Results.". A stunning combination of talents. They should have done a follow-up.

At least Shirley got a song written for her by The Pet Shop Boys:

"The video for "Don't Drop Bombs" is ridiculous yet epic!
And I may have drunkenly requested (and sang) "Losing My Mind" at Monster a time or two.."
Kudos to you, but next time at the Monster see if the pianist knows how to play Don't Drop Bombs. You're halfway there if you're drunk with their overpriced drinks.
WITH YOUR SECRETARY, YOU'LL HAVE A HEART ATTACK!.
GUILTY RECORD OR PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS,
I'VE HAD ENOUGH,
BABY!!!
Hey, no one's mentioned Liza's wild cover of Tanita Tikaram's "Twist in My Sobriety" on Results.
Liza's original version of it is great, but THE REMIX IS TO DIE FOR.
