Isn't' ALW's cat dead? Because I'm sure I heard it was decomposing!
Omg, ALW, shut up about your fricking cats! He mentions them in like every interview he does!
from http://arts.guardian.co.uk/theatre/drama/story/0,,2093544,00.html
"Interviewer: What or who is the greatest love of your life?
ALW: Madeleine, and I'm very fond of my cat."
further down
"Interviewer: Where would you most like to be right now?
ALW: At home with my cat."
Is he shilling CATS, or is he just obsessed?
In all fairness, when you have a pet you adore, it is VERY EASY to become obsessed. Are there any rat owners out there? I'm confident that you guys in particular will know what I'm on about. ^_^

Elizabeth II should knight this cat for its services to humanity ...

I have to agree I thought it was a joke at first, but it being real makes it even funnier. The cat is now going to be flooded by Thank You gifts from Musical Theatre lovers everywhere.
Since you all seem to be excited about this bit of news. Here is a photo of "Otto" the cat
Introducing the latest member of the Lloyd Webber family: Otto The Cat. Filmed by Andrew‘s daughter Bella (his daughter is 10 years old). Link to video address is below.
The CATS fans on the RUG board adore "Otto."

He's the greatest cat.
Of course, after Oliver, my cat, who interestingly looks like Otto (but 11 years older).
HAHA! I love irony!
I hear rimshots all over the place after reading the above posts!

He's giving himself a future excuse, if critics tear into the new Phantom sequel, he'll just say he'd written the best score of his career but then his cat destroyed it and he had to start over.
And I think a new Phantom on Broadway would eat into PotO's business and that's our best shot of that show closing anytime soon, so you guys should be angry at the cat and not cheering it on.
I think that the cat story is a pile of crap.
Good kitty - too bad he wasn't around when Webber was composing Cats - now thats a score that needs destroying.
Agree about Cats score being destroyed as a good thing

Rotel...is there a plan to close Phantom of the Opera? I was not aware of this. What's Plan B if this kitty's tactics have disrupted Plan A?
It's not a jellicle cat! It's a very evil, demented cat! Sir Andrew must put it to sleep!

No plan that I'm aware of, just think there two different things that could happen.
1) Webber closes PotO so that they don't compete against one another and forces the Phantom hungry tourists to watch his new show if they want their Phantom fix.
or
2) Webber tries to run both at the same time which would eat into both their profits so he'd be forced to close one down in hopes of improving his business on the other.
That's just my guess, but of course he could do something totally crazy like open the new Phantom at the St James, buy up the whole street and run a mini Phantom World amusement park, dig up the street and fill it up with water and offer boat rides up and down the street. Kind of like a mini Venice except all themed to the Phantom.
When I read the playbill article....I thought it was a joke.
c'mon... we all knew there was a contract on that score... guess the cat just hit the jackpot Good kitty, kitty :)

Have you all seen the new article? Where he deems the damage done by the cat as "insignificant" or something like that? Theres a link on BWW somewhere today about it.

I suppose he expected everyone to be like, "Oh no! Poor Andrew!"
I guess he didn't expect people to rip him to shreads like us. I think the damage is quite signifigant. Why would he exagerate so?
