Looking for first Shuffle Along playbill

Hello,

I am looking for the first Shuffle Along playbill to add to my collection. I will be seeing the show this Friday, but want a playbill with the original artwork. Does anyone have one they are willing to sell to me? PM for details and to discuss. I appreciate the help.

I totally understand this, because the original artwork is beautiful. I cringed when I was told that hundreds of the original Playbills were tossed in the trash when the new ones were delivered to the theater, thinking about the change in the artwork!

Best of luck with your search! (By the way, if you have an eBay account, there are several available for purchase there it seems. I got one for $5, including the insert)

^ I'm not sure if you're just being snarky for the sake of it or what... but since Playbill has been in business since 1884, I'm going to guess that yes, in fact, there was a program of some sort, or a handbill, distributed at Shuffle Along in 1921.

As for what the OP is asking about: the Shuffle Along 2016 production changed its artwork after a week... and people have been trying to find Playbills with the original artwork.

Do you mean they were tossed in the trash? Who were they mailing them to?

Was there any specific reason given as to why the Playbill cover art was changed?

I have one. I saw it on 03/19 matinee.

I'm not sure if mine is the old one or the new one. I saw the show just about one week in, so I have no idea if it was before or after the redesign happened. Can someone describe which artwork is which?

The artwork that's on the front of house is the first playbill. The current playbill is pink feet.

Thanks loliveve, you've saved me the trouble.

I have the original cover.

I am guessing that the reason behind the change is that Playbills in the past rarely used the show logo, just a still from the show and the show's title written in white lettering over the still.

If that's what the producers were going for, then they could have taken it one step further and used a black and white photo of the dancing feet. Playbills did not use color photos in the past.

It was very rare for a show to have a color Playbill cover with the show's logo on it, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done. Here is one for the 1970 Broadway production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" which is in full color and used the show's logo.

CarlosAlberto- That guess makes sense to me. I think it would have been better in black and white, as you suggest, to at least keep a bit more in theme with the show colors and the time period they are trying to invoke, if that is the case.

When the Playbill cover was re-designed, I thought they were going to do a full marketing overhaul (including changes on the website, theatre marquee, etc.). Who knows! (Though I sure hope that is not the case!)

I hope it's just a Playbill "thing" and that they stick with the original design on their website, marquee and marketing/promotional materials, which are a perfect fit for this production.

Who knows what they have (had) in mind when they decided to change the Playbill cover, maybe the model used in their ads only signed a waiver for her photo to be used in advertising that did not include a Playbill cover and to avoid paying her anymore money they abruptly changed it?

Just spoke to the box office, the playbills were so popular they are bringing them back and trashing the "new ones". The lady at the window said they should be in around 2 weeks from now.

Thank you for asking and that is great news. I would say hoard a few old ones, it may surge on price soon.

I appoligise for any spelling mistakes. I may be on my mobile. Clumsy fingers and small little touchscreen keys don't mixx. I try to spellcheck, but I may miss something.

I feel like the original ones were only popular because they got rid of them. No one is going to be desperately searching for one now if they bring it back.
