I really hope they have a decent-sized orchestra. The overture is one of the greatest ever written for Broadway.
On the Twentieth Century was the second cast recording I ever purchased and it was the first year I watched the Tony Awards. I remember hearing that opening number for the first time and how excited I was to see it on television. The only opportunity for me to see the show was in February 1979 when I went to NYC with my best friend (which was a big deal as we were only 14 and our parents let us go alone). As my friend had already seen On the 20th Century, we chose Eubie instead. I always regret not being able to see the original production.
Love the score to this show and the orchestrations are wonderful.
Well, if Jackman is cast, they can cast the rest of the show with no regard to ticket sales. So, if Cheno is unavailable due to a TV show, I'd like to see Rachel York get a role like this to become the star she should be. Martin would be a terrific Letitia, and Burnett would be a dream, but I also think Harriet Harris would be great in the role.
It's not going to be done without Chenoweth.
Yeah, it definitely looks like a vehicle for her. I'm not sure what the midseason order for GOOD CHRISTIAN BELLES means in terms of her schedule now. On one hand, she'll have to tape a lot less episodes than if they had gotten a full season order, but at the same time she might not be able to open the show in the Spring. We'll see. I'd love to see her back on stage in a role where she's not miscast.
Could Rachel York sing the role?

Here's a link to a page from Rachel York's website containing some audios that show her ridiculous range. In particular, listen to her take on Lovely from Forum.
York
Thanks madbrian. After hearing those clips I'm sure she could handle it. And she is wonderful with comedy. I vote for York as Lily Garland!

madbrian, that's perfect! I'd love to see RY get a shot at this if Cheno isn't available. And she can certainly sing Coleman. Wonder if she'll sing anything from 20th Century in The Best Is Yet to Come.

I will do 20th century as well. Lining up!"
^ ugh
RE: Jackman, someone at ATC reports talking with him after his show in SF and he said "not this time." So, who else for Oscar?
I loved this show in the late 1970's! it was the first musical I'd seen after moving back to the tri-state area. It would be wonderful to have a sterling cast recreate this funny show. I miss Imogene Coca, but think it'd be a riot with Andrea Martin or perhaps Jackie Hoffman. Saw Kevin Kline but I highly doubt he'd return to a production he's already starred in even if in a different part. I'll never forget the gorgeous deco-train.
I'd love to see Kline as Oscar and Marc Kudisch as Bruce (awkward!). Carol Burnett would be an inspired choice for Letitia.
Just thinking about a potential revival of this show makes me excited. Hopefully Ashford isn't involved, or else it'll be set in a 1960's office.
Haha! Marc Kudisch and Chenoweth sharing the stage. That is something I would really pay big bucks to see!
They already did Apple Tree together post break-up.
