Per Chenoweth...
"I'm involved in a reading of a show that I'm very interested in doing about Tammy Faye Baker. We're going to revive On the Twentieth Century, and I'm going to know a lot more, in about two weeks, about when that will be! You know everybody knows how I feel about Broadway and how much I love it, and I'm lucky that I get to consider what kinds of things that I would like to do. Obviously, I love to do original stuff, but On the Twentieth Century [has] a part that I've been wanting to play, and it seems like a really good fit."

OMG! I just picked myself up off the floor.
Here's why.

This would be wonderful. I would love to see Carol Burnett return to Broadway as Letitia.
^I was thinking Andrea Martin.

Martin would be wonderful, too- but I just think this would be the perfect vehicle for Burnett to return to the stage with.

Ah, this would really be a DELIGHTFUL part for Miss C. Then have Judy Kaye come back in the fold and do the Imogene Coca part. A funny full circle. And Kevin Klein as John Cullum. And Pleeeze, don't downgrade the train set!!!

I'm pumped for this, GCB and her album. Good Year for Kristin. :)
So exciting. I love this show so much.
Andrea Martin for Primrose is perfect. Burnett would be the best choice but I don't see her taking the part for some reason.
Is Hugh Jackman still likely for Oscar?

I'd love to see this happen. She's perfect for the part!

I was living in Chicago during the original run, so I've never seen the show. I love the recording and Chenowith sounds like a perfect choice. I don't know where the Hugh Jackman thought arose but would I love to see THAT!!!!!

Ed I saw the tour in Chicago when I was in High School! Rock Hudson, Judy Kaye, Imogene Coca. At the old Arie Crown Theater I believe. Magical.
I hope they don't skimp on the number of musicians in the pit.
If I had a nickel for everytime an actor said a project was on....
But hey, let's keep our fingers crossed, casting Oscar is critical.
I'd love to see Robin Wagner's stunning sets recreated.
Andrea Martin played Primrose in the Roundabout reading. Hugh Jackman was Oscar. Chenoweth would shine in the role. After her miscasting and critical lashing in Promises, this is the perfect show for her to return to Broadway in. Martin and Jackman are also perfect choices for those roles.
This is (obviously, per my screen name) one of my favorite shows. I think it is one of the last true musicals of the Golden Age and deserves to have a second life.

I hope this isn't another el cheapo Roundabout production--the show really requires a brilliant set design and ace direction to make it great.
Wasn't this just revived? I remember coming up to visit for high school and there being a revival of it. That wasn't even ten years ago.
That was probably TWENTIETH CENTURY, a new play adaptation by Ken Ludwig, with Alec Baldwin and Anne Heche.
2004, by the Roundabout at the American Airlines.
The show hasn't been revived since its original run on bway in the 70s.
There was a one night benefit concert in 2005 with Marin Mazzie and Douglas Sills at the Amsterdam, but that's it.
You may be thinking of the original play that the musical is based on called simply "Twentieth Century". That classic screwball comedy was revived with Alec Baldwin and Ann Heche in 2004.
I wasn't even alive when the original musical played Broadway which is why I am soooo psyched for this and hopeful it will happen. One of my favorite scores by one of my favorite composers.
I have to post again.....I love, love, LOVE this show. Cheno, Kline, and Martin....please, God, please.
I have always wanted to see this show.
Having seen a production of this show in London last year I'm more than ever convinced that the key to it is a strong and charismatic presence in the Oscar Jaffe role. So here's hoping those Hugh Jackman rumors turn out to be true.

Hope it happens. Cy Coleman was one of the finest composers Broadway has ever known and his works deserve to be heard.
Chenoweth's show (now called "Good Christian Belles") was picked up as a mid-season replacement by ABC. I wonder if that is good or bad for this revival coming in next spring? I'm assuming they'll shoot all their episodes this fall?
