Love Never Dies delayed. New Show for Adelphi for Autumn?

Love Never Dies is now delayed until Spring 2010, which leaves the Adelphi vacant for a show during August until the new proposed opening for Love Never Dies

I wonder what show will go in for a season...? Something Christmassy? It would be great if Gypsy did a limited season from Broadway but I don't think it'll happen and Patti I don't think woul dever go back to The Adelphi!

Hmm I wonder. I know it is a RUG theatre but might Witches take it for a limited season? Or Flashdance?

I don't think it will be long till an announcement is made, empty theatres are like gold dust in the West End.

I think if Love Never Dies hadn't already bagsied the theatre afterwards, Blonde might have made the move. But they wouldn't want to do that since it would be very limited.

How I would love it if August:Osage County could have a limted transfer. I think though it will either be a transfer of a touring production or a christmas show on the lines of Scrooge/White Christmas etc.

I think Falshdance should take it. Its done far better on tour than Witches and i think it would have a very succesful season, though the producers may be to worried about having it play so close to Legally Blonde.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

It's being delayed here in New York as well. However, unlike in London they never formally announced a theatre and there was just rumor and speculation that it was going to take the Neil Simon. But, I wonder what is going to go there now at least considering that if it is true that Phantom II: I would rather suffer from crabs then see this show, is delayed then it is a fair amount of time for a show to play there.

I doubt that they are going to want to keep the theatre empty for long if they don't have to. Now, I do understand that there are theatres that have yet to find shows, but I feel that The Neil Simon won't stay empty for long. They were supposed to have Robin Williams do another Broadway stint there but due to illness they had to cancel it.

I kind of wish that the Dirty Dancing rumors were true (not because I loved the show) but because at least it would be another successful show running on Broadway.

If Dirty Dancing wants the theatre for an Autumn start the theatre owners would be stupid not to take the show. It got more going for it to be a box office hit than Lloyd Webbers show does.

Love Never Dies has constantly so far disappointed due to Webber stupidly announcing things before they are even ready - he ha such a habit for this - The deal with the Neil Simon isn't confirmed at all, he said just before his recent revival Evita opened in the West End that the show would open at the Neil Simon.

His plan of opening it in three countries is also looking ever increasingly going down the pan

I think the only confirmation the show has in terms of opening is that the Adelphi is a cert (webber owns it)

I was thinking the same... but the only big-ish shows Kenwright has is Evita, Joseph (the current and previous tenant!) and Can't Smile Without You ... unless he pick up something else

Be great for Hello, Dolly to transfer in maybe if its a success at the Open Air or Light In The Piazza.

Also lets not forget, Nederlanders are half owners of the theatre so they won't let it go dark and they control/produce many Broadway shows - Jimmy originally wanted Movin Out to do a limited run at the Adelphi prior to Evita but Webber upped the date for Evita, stupidly.

No, but I love the cast recording.
It just arrived flat in a box at the Apollo Victoria, I felt so sorry for that hard working company playing to about a 100 each night.
A medium size show that got lost on that stage.
Its arrival in London just didn't seem to get any lights flashing or drums rolling.

I really liked Movin Out - but it was lost on that stage.
When the transfer was first piping up back in 2005 and they said it was going into the Adelphi for a limited run pre-Evita I thought it was actually a good space for it - but then it changed to the Palladium (even stupider) and then to the Apollo Victoria which as Mama said just dwarfed the show

I saw the show many times - i mean they were giving away tickets really - and i loved it and felt so sorry for the cast. I saw it on a number of occasion in the dress circle being the only person with my friend!

Also - as mama said aka (again) had no idea on marketing the show and it opened with no hype of any kind. Although i have to say the after party at pacha was excellent!

I wish sometimes they'd think thru transfers - this alongside countless others was a classic case of carelessness.

Correct me if I am wrong since I don't know London geography that well. But, I remember reading online someone's opinion that the reason why Movin' Out didn't do so well in London was due to the fact that the show was placed at the Apollo Victoria which isn't really in the center of things so that no one would actually see it and know that it is around. Also, they suggested that possibly one of the reasons why it didn't do so well there is that it has been years since Billy Joel has done a tour let alone a concert in England.

As for Dirty Dancing, I remember seeing the show for a second time in Boston. During that time they were collecting for Broadway Cares. I knew that not that long before I went to see the show again, rumors of the show taking the Neil Simon came to surface. I kind of figured that they were almost done with their long stop in Boston and then moving to LA where they are going to have their final stop of the tour that they must know something about the future of the show on Broadway.

I had asked a couple of different cast members and they said the same thing. They had said that plans for Broadway had been pushed aside and that this production is going to shut down after they are done in LA. I must say that it doesn't matter if you like the show or not. But, it seems to me to be a bad move on the side of the producers. That they have this show that is an international money maker and making money on tour in America. You would think that they would be smart enough to bring it to Broadway where it can continue to make them more and more money.

A birdy told me this morning someone from Really Useful booked a number of tickets to see Light in the Piazza yesterday. Hmm .. ..

Also Nicola Burns is due a visit soon. Away from topic but it looks like this show could get a transfer.

I loved Movin' Out on Broadway, but it was lost in the Apollo Vic. Can't blame the venue- Starlight Express and Wicked seem to have found an audience there.

Back to the original thread- this is sounding like another botch up by the Lord. Why did the show need a new orchestration. Doesn't he usually "do his own"?

re: Love Never Dies delayed. New Show for Adelphi for Autumn?

I think that the venue can be blamed for one of the reasons why Movin Out didn't work well in London. The two shows that you named both Starlight Express and Wicked, are two mammoth shows that fit well into the huge theatre that is the Apollo Victoria. Hell, both of those shows even played the same theatre on Broadway. But, Movin Out isn't a big show at all and I think that it got lost in the huge theatre.

Sorry, to clarify, I meant the location of the venue, rather than the stage. Yes, the show was lost on that stage. I saw it twice on Broadway and it had a great atmosphere. In London it was in an atmosphere vacuum!

re: Love Never Dies delayed. New Show for Adelphi for Autumn?

I loved "Movin' Out" on Broadway. Mind you, I was spoilt somewhat - the Saturday night I went Billy Joel himself came out at the curtain and sang the tile song and "New York State Of Mind" - quite a special night.

Thankyou all for info on Movin Out, I remember it been announced that it was coming to the West End for 8 weeks, I know how well recieved this show was on Broadway, by critics and public alike, I had no idea it was such a flop though.

Back to the original topic, all the shows mentioned, Witches, Flashdance, August, Blithe Spirit, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Movin Out (Better Location), are all capable of a strong West End limited run.

The Lord may go with a show from his own stable, such as Cats, Aspects or Superstar? Just as he did with Whistle down the Wind before Spamalot at the Palace.

Those would all involve a new production, (albeit a revival), rather than bringing in a tour, as was the case with Whistle Down the Wind.

Blithe Spirit would be my preference. Who knows what we'll actually end up with!!!
