This makes me happy.
It's on Nonesuch records, according to the big ad for the show in the NY Times today.

I'd be PISSED if there wasn't.
Was there ever an indication that there wouldn't be? I just always expected it.
Got my tickets today so I am excited!
I had a feeling there wouldn't be, since cast recordings are so expensive to produce, plus Patti LuPone is already on the concert recording with the NY Phil.
I'm actually surprised how many revivals get cast recordings--I mean, seriously, did we really need to have Alfred Molina in "Fiddler on the Roof" on CD? I'll gladly have another "Sweeney" recording though. Not that I'm obsessed with this show or anything
Speaking of which, I noticed Telecharge has the entire cast list up now. Has everyone else been confirmed?
And is Alexander Gemignani (he's playing the Beadle, I guess?) now considered one of Sondheim's special ones?
I'm actually quite embarassed to admit that this will be my first experience with it.
I watched a few minutes of the SF Concert DVD with Patti and George Hearn to make sure I'd like it - but I am not even really familiar with the music.
I am really excited about learning it actually.
Gemignani is Paul's son, isn't he?

I actually thought PS Classics would record this...They seemed to have done all the other Sondheim shows recently, but, hey! I'm just glad it's getting recorded!
Woohoo, though who could REALLY replace Angela, Len, and George?
Yes, they're father/son, ME Fan. I'd shout nepotism, but I thought his Hinckley was great.

sweet, I bet the packaging will be cool since its Nonsuch.

Couldn't agree more. I think he'll be a great Beadle.

Now you must ask: will it be the complete score?
Very happy about Cerveris, but is anyone else a little tired of Patti? She's great in the role, but I was really hoping for someone new.
I'm really interested to hear Michael Cerveris sing this role. It will be very different to have a tenor doing it. Judging by the "Assassins" recording, he does have the low notes, but the lighter quality of voice will probably add some interesting new dimensions to the character. Perhaps a tenor voice will make Sweeney more sympathetic?
This is exciting. Nonsuch always does such a nice job with cast recordings.
Who will play Johanna?
I wonder if it will be a single 75 minute CD containing just the main musical numbers? A double CD from Nonesuch would be very expensive.
The 2 CD set from the New York Philharmonic was supposed to be a limited edition of 10,000 copies.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Johanna is being played by someone named Lauren Molina, I think.
Mmmmm.
Michael Cerveris.

Hmmm, I'm not a Patti-lover I'm afraid - her wild swooping around the score on the NYPhil recording annoys me, as does that bizarre attempt at an accent (Australia, Hampshire, various bits of London etc) which I hope will be cleaned up for a proper production. Though it's not quite as funny as the Scottish Irishman. Anyway, I'll wait and see what 'the board' thinks of it before shelling out...
Im partial to having Sondheim write a new song for the Lovett character, much like he did for the character of the Witch and Repunzel (Our Little World) in Into the Woods when it transfered to London.
I agree. Though I'm a Patti fan the fact that we already have her in the role on CD and in concert on video is a major drawback for me in looking forward to the show. Cyndi Lauper still seems a more interesting choice. Even Bernadette would have been more fun. For the same reason I'd rather see Streisand in the film version of "Sunset Blvd" rather than Glenn Close which is really a rarity for me since I usually always support the original stage star recreating their role on film but I just feel there won't be any surprises with Close doing it...just like Patti playing Ms. Lovett.
