Should I purchase now. What's the word on the street about how it will sell? I will be in NYC the week of Thanksgiving from Wed to Sunday.
Also any opinions on whether it's worth springing on better seats. Or would first row balcony be ok.

I just bought second row on the aisle for a Saturday evening in October. There seemed to be a lot of seats still available.
M. BUTTERFLY is actually an intimate play, with few if any scenes featuring more than three characters. The Asian Theater-inspired spectacle is performed in between scenes; it was part of the concept of the original director and became written into the script, but to me it's only window dressing.
God only knows what Julie Taymor will do with it, but when has less ever been more to her? Were it up to me, I'd rather sit closer than the balcony.
Seems like they would need to start rehearsals soon... and sell some tickets but they've yet to announce a star playing Song LIlling...
Bueller???? Waiting to buy my tickets till I see who is playing the lead.
I'd wait as I am for when discounts are announced

They haven't announced any other cast members yet, including the role of Song Liling, who I imagine will be played by a very lucky young, unknown actor.

I still love the M. Butterfly artwork but I'm not crazy about the rest of the signage. The font, text size, orientation, colors, etc. don't really pop in the right way to be the most readable. Especially Clive Owen's name. To generalize, straight plays are mostly seen by older theatergoers and they don't always have the best eyesight.

This play is all about the acting and the character development. Why anyone thought Taymor would be the right fit is between intriguing and questionable. Her shows are usually all about her visuals.
Oh look, it's the ellipses that say "I know something you don't know." Thanks!

From what I've heard, the show is cast, so I'd expect an announcement soon.
Jin Ha.

If they were going to photoshop that publicity photo to death, they could have at least made Jin Ha look more like a (beautiful) woman. That is a friggin terrible photo.

I agree. That photo should make Jin Ha look much more convincing.
At the same time, I would revise this statement: ''Song Liling, who I imagine will be played by a very lucky young, unknown actor.''
I believe it should read: ''who will be played by a very talented, young, unknown actor.'' Since casting is subjective, luck plays a role in most anyone's casting. But if the director didn't think Jin Ha had the talent to pull it off, I doubt he would've gotten the same challenging part that won B.D. Wong a Tony.
JIN HA (Song Liling) is a New York City-based actor. ''M. Butterfly'' is Jin’s Broadway debut. After graduating from Columbia University with a degree in East Asian Languages & Cultures, Jin went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from NYU Tisch. Previous credits include ''Troilus & Cressida'' (NYSF) and the original Chicago company of ''Hamilton.''

I'm probably reading too much into this photo but maybe they're going for some version of "dark, gritty realism"? I cannot otherwise explain the choice to (apparently) not groom his brows, the netting, or that makeup. It's not flattering in terms of dominant modern American or Korean makeup styles but it's also not historically accurate. It almost seems designed to make him look sickly as though he's Mimi wasting away in La Boheme.
Hello! I'm back asking for discount codes. Planning on seeing this on 21st October (sat).
