Posted: 2/4/06 at 10:52amThe new logo is cleaner, a little more bold. I did like the original London logo, but the cherry blossoms were a bit twee.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 10:53ami like the London artwork much better, it defines it as different from the movie

Posted: 2/4/06 at 11:06amI really like this; it really feels like classic '50s/'60s Disney. There's something really enchanting about the retro look to me. I like it better than the London one.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 12:41pmI swear to God, if they (pardon my language) f--k this one up and soap it up, I wish Disney the worst.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 12:43pmI agree...love it. Very classic Disney, and it's very pleasing to the eye. Not a bunch of jumbled up business everywhere, you can look right at it and know what it is. I think Disney's definitely on the right track w/ this musical.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 12:46pmIf they bring the brillance of the West End show over, ShuQ, I'd agree with you. However, a good 45% of the board (including myself) is getting the idea that they are going to soap it up and rewrite it for the little American brats and start selling Bert and Mary plush toys in the loby.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 1:58pmThey shouldn't have to soap it up. I don't see why it's such a bad thing for Americans to get a taste of a different culture through theater. The should keep the show the way it is in London. I will be shocked if they do. As wonderful as Julie Andrews was, Mary Poppins was not that nice. But because of the film, that's how I know people here want to see Mary. "Mary Poppins" is a very English story, and I don't see why a return to that would be so bad.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 2:54pmI hope that it stays as dark as I hear it is in London.

Me too.
I heard they might take out the toy number ("Temper Temper") but that's what I've heard so far. But if they take out "Brimstone and Treacle," then there is going to be hell to pay.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 4:00pmI think it's ok.. However, I LOVED the London artwork much better... I'm still happy it's finally coming to NYC. :)

Posted: 2/4/06 at 4:03pmI was under the impression that the trimming and tightening that was implemented in the first major cast change last year would be the Broadway template.

I'm happy that it's coming I just hope that they keep the same feeling of the London version and don't cheapen it
and i'm not going to lie, this logo change makes me a little nervous - i was a fan of the other version i thought it fit the show very well
we'll see...

Posted: 2/4/06 at 5:13pmThere was just something so lovely about the London artwork, in my opinion. The cherry blossoms were a symbol used all around the theatre. All the critics' reviews were posted with little cherry blossoms floating in and out all around the edges of the theatre, both heavy and light, depending on how close they were to the marquee... It was a beautiful image. I don't dislike the new logo, but it definately feels different.

I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

Posted: 2/4/06 at 5:34pmpopcultureboy, did they make any significant changes to the show when the cast changed? I saw it with the original cast, and would be curious to know what has changed since then.

The london artwork had a more mystical feel to it. If you know what I mean. The first one with the flowers, made it more family friendly and it just looked like Mary Poppins was gonna be a really special thing. The second one makes it look more creapy (that is the only word I could use to describe how it looks to me) and more magical. These were my FAVORITE logos, and I am sad they changed it. This new disney one, makes it look more kiddish. The other two logos, in my opinion represented well, what the show was going to be like, and this new one does not.

Posted: 2/4/06 at 6:31pmI agree, I think the London logo was really interesting. It gave it a magical feel, which I think - though I haven't seen it - the production has. The new one - to me - is just hard on the eyes. It doesn't flow very well and the color aren't very vibrant.

I like the London version because it is cleaner, newer, and more vibrant. But the American version breeds a stronger association with the film, which is a big selling point here, so I see why they did it.

I personally like the London artwork better. As far as the show goes, not sure about what will happen but if it is kept as dark as the London cast I will be happy. If not, I understand in a way that American audiences just don't go for that like those who attend theatre in London. Either way I wish the show all the best.

What neddyfrank posted is not the Broadway logo.
The Broadway logo can be seen on the Disney on Broadway website.
