Until MCC puts up its own videos, I found this of Jennifer Holliday singing  "I Am What I Am" and I am in awe. (Song starts about 2 minutes in after she talks about Norbert Leo Butz singing "And I Am Telling You" and a bit about The Color Purple)

What the hell is Mandy Gonzalez doing? That was a strange interpretation of that song.

Completely agree on both points.  Somebody please give Stephanie a bunch of Tonys just cuz (I s really hope she snags at least a nom if not a win for Trina).  I didn't want to hate on Mandy but I now appreciate Ben Platt even more than I did before.  My God.

Not to totally hijack the topic, but since we miss Norbert on Broadway, if the Mrs. Doubtfire ever gets made him or BDJ would be my top two choices.

Yikes. If their point was to show that Mandy Gonzalez would be miscast in that role, they sure succeeded.

Glad it isn't just me with Gonzalez. She sounds great in the Bridges video but that WTAW was hideous.

Musically it was strange. Her reach for "waving" sounded off, consistently, and she has a powerhouse range. It was a dangerous effort, because she tried to appropriate the emotional focus but oversang it and it just seemed to go on forever.  Too bad.
