Question for those that have seen the show.
Does Myles Frost carry the show? In other words, would the show work without him?

If they are looking for new show ideas, may I suggest something about OJ's life? Might be up their alley."

I’m not a fan. A child of the 90s and always found him to be kinda creepy. But the reviews have def made me interested in seeing this. I love Nottage and would be curious what she would bring to a Broadway jukebox show.

I’ve never seen a Broadway show receive 4 standing ovations throughout the performance, thanks in part, due to the star making performance of Myles Frost.
Myles captured the essence of who Michael Jackson was.
Never mind the tabloid headlines, this show explains the choices he made. Most importantly, you are shown his humanity. This a production that deserves the accolades coming their way.

When you dig deeper, you find he is absolutely worthy of praise, not just for his music but what he did for others too. The musical touches that subject too. Nice to see that he gets a voice amid the insane noise the media created around and against him."
I dunno. Where I come from, sleeping with little boys is frowned upon. I don’t care how good his music was.
Hi there, new here.
Sorry to say that, living in Spain, I've never been more than mildly interested in Broadway musicals, but as a long time MJ fan I'll definitely try to catch this.
Again, just wanted to say hi and that I appreciate your insight and analysis. Will keep reading you!

Yeah, sorry for that. The global MJ fan community is pretty big, but we're here to learn. Please don't feel bothered by us.

Maybe you should start with his documentary that came out a few years ago if you’d like to “learn.”

Excuse me if I don't reply to this. I don't really appreciate passive-agressiveness or condescension.
n2nBaby that was so uncalled for.
This newbie left a super pleasant message and you talk to them like that? Let's also remember that the documentary you speak of was discredited on many fronts. For example, how could he have abused one of the boys in the train station in Neverland when it wasn't built at the time of the alleged abuse?
And no, I'm not a super Jackson fan before you start, I just happen not to rely on documentaries like that for facts.
It is an undisputed fact that Michael Jackson slept in the same bed as a 13-year-old boy, not part of his family, for more than 30 nights in a row. It is an undisputed fact that five of his accusers shared a bed with him. It is an undisputed fact that an accuser's descriptions of unusual markings on Jackson's genitals matched photographs taken by investigators. It is an undisputed fact that the hallway leading to Jackson's bedroom was rigged so that electronic noises would alert him to anyone approaching. That's a little tiny bit of it. None of that's inappropriate? You don't need to get your facts from "documentaries like that," or have any inclination to listen to the accusers themselves like a responsible adult, to feel that the ongoing, posthumous celebrity worship and monetization of such a person is profoundly disturbing. You can't even say excuses are being made, because they aren't, just annoyance that anyone would let reality get in the way of the mild fun of yet another catalog tribute concert musical.

100% what Scarywarhol wrote so well this morning. And for the record, two of my own posts are invisible. One can assume the sudden new rash of fervent fans are complaining about the historically justifiable critique of this new entertainment.

Are you saying you've never misremembered a detail from a childhood memory? This is the kind of discrediting that victims sadly put up with.

Don't ever apologize Carne, like you and me millions upon millions of people absolutely love Michael Jackson and his music. That is very obvious with his music sales, long running show in Vegas, and the thousands of positive comments on the musicals social media pages. Welcome! This thread is about previews to this awesome show, so you are in the right place!
I saw this show this past week and it was incredible. The talent, the sets, the lighting, and the song choices are all TOP notch. It has a long preview period so I expect some minor changes to tighten it up a bit as a few storylines need more resolution. The crowd around me was electric and was as excited as we we were to be attending this fantastic show. Unlike several shows I've attended this Fall that were a snooze, this was interesting and exciting the entire time. Myles Frost is a star and I cannot wait for the world to see that. Highly recommended to all including alllll the international tourists that will see and love this show. 10 stars!

Another great comment and it actually belongs in this thread.Thank you! I had three standing ovations when I saw it!
Uh, the show itself addresses Jackson's "messy personal life" in some detail. In its very design, stated by the creators, it's not intended to be Branson/Vegas hagiography that sidesteps biography. Its premise is circumstantial and thus bio specific. So it's impossible to imagine a serious discussion of the piece as a theatrical construct -- it was written by a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright -- that doesn't delve into a "messy personal life" of the title character. The thoughtful, history-annotating discussion here is parsing which details are included vs those that feel airbrushed. This type of analysis of creative decision-making is one reason many of us post here. All conversation needn't be reductive fan-speak. I offer this informed observation as someone who's posted here since the board's origin.

Facts are facts, America.
Some great footage in the rehearsal room including brief interviews with Lynn and Myles, for those interested.
There comes a point where we need to learn to separate the art from the artist. I know I for one am not giving up Kevin Spacey movies just because he’s a creep. The J. Randy Taraborelli biography of Michael is the most revealing window into his life, troubles, turmoil and artistry. You can’t put a kid through what he went through and expect them to turn out normal.
Feb. 28 - Looped, Feb. 28 - Next to Normal, March 4 - Hair, March 11 - A Little Night Music, March 24 - Time Stands Still, April 6 - La Cage Aux Folles, April 10 - Anyone Can Whistle (City Center), April 10 - Looped, May 9 - Enron, May 15 - A Little Night Music, May 15 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Little Night Music, June 20 - A Little Night Music, June 23 - Red, June 23 - Sondheim on Sondheim, July 13 - A Little Night Music, July 18 - The Grand Manner (Lincoln Center)
But this is not even his art. The show itself is, ostensibly, about the artist.
