MTV Discovers Broadway!!!

That is great, despite of all the negative comments about Haylie Duff, people from the MTV generation, got to see a little about Broadway. I also remember watching Vanessa Williams on MTV talking about her debut in Kiss of The Spider Woman, she was one of the hottest pop stars back then. Toni Braxton had a special on VH1 and they showed her rehearsing for the role of Aida. Also i remember watching Tamyra Gray talking about Bombay Dreams on MTV. Any other examples?

MTV News did a piece for Sebastian Bach's opening night party in Jekyll & Hyde.

When Kevin Richardson (Backstreet Boys) was in Chicago, he was on TRL for it.

I don't doubt that they'll do a piece on Usher in Chicago when it gets time.

MADE has had at least one episode about someone wanting to be in 42ND STREET when it was still running.

Oh, Im sure they will, Usher is huge. I think it's great they do that kind of stuff, I mean, yes, maybe the role should be played by some unknown Broadway actor with more talent, but it is really a great chance to bring new costumers to Broadway. And those will see another show eventually.

Kevin Richardson was in Chicago?! Are there any pictures? I can't imagine his singing voice was all that great?

Anyways, they had another episode of MADE where they had Orfeh and they girl went backstage at Wicked to learn how to "riff." That was a Broadway episode. It had a ton of other B'way performers on it.

Hm...I'm a MADE fanatic, I've seen all but two episodes, but I don't remember a "Hairspray" one, but she might have been on one of the two "Broadway" type ones.

re: MTV Discovers Broadway!!!

Back in the early days of VH1, a couple of Broadway shows made music videos (LOTS of British shows did and still do). CATS and EDWIN DROOD both had pretty good ones.

I'd love to see Punk'd the Musical.

Actually, no, I definitely wouldn't.

Seth Rudetsky was on Made. Haha.
Well, he had special guest Shoshana Bean on it as well.

Actually, Richardson has a background in musical theatre, apparently even ALADDIN for Disney parks. I think he's a good candidate for a future musical theatre leading man.

re: MTV Discovers Broadway!!!

philcrosby --- The "Cats" music video for Rum Tum Tugger was actually on MTV first back in 1983 or 84, in the pre-VH1 days.

So MTV discovered Broadway about 23 years ago.

I remember the "Pie Jesu" (Andrew Lloyd Webber) video featuring Sarah Brightman and Paul Miles Kingston. That one aired on MTV a LOT.

Orfeh also made an appearance on Seth's episode of Made. She was singing in the park with Seth nearby. I know that the cast of Altar Boyz did a dance class with her and gave her tickets to the show once she found out who they were. That didn't make the episode, though.
