Is that blog even real?????????????????? It seems a little fake to me. I hope they keep this film at a very low budget like that other wedding movie. Madonna should be in something more like Sweeney Todd or Dreamgirls. The inherent problem of converting these jukebox musicals into movies is the songs. Abba has already made these songs popular. It just seems like a snore to hear Madonna cover these boring pop songs. At least with legit songs, she would be the first doing it outside of Bway.
Why would there ever be a movie of Mamma Mia? Don't get me wrong, I love the show and think it is so much fun but...let's be honest here. The music is the star of the show. We all know the book is crap. It plays well in a theatre but I think on the big screen it would just flop and come off as poorly written and ill-conceived.
However, if it has to be done I agree that Olivia Newton-John should play Donna. We've been through enough already with Madonna on the silver screen.
ok I truly think this would work for Madonna
I also think Oliva would be a great choice
and lets add one more to mixing bowl just an idea is

Well if the movie HAS to be made, I dont think I would mind Madonna
I love Madonna and thought she was fantastic in EVITA.
While Oliva Newton John would be ideal, my vote would go for Madonna.
I think either would be dynamo!
FAITH HILL! Interesting...
Hey i diddn't post the thread!!
It has been spoke about in the uk press as well though,A few papers said she was taking the part in the film.

That blog seems a bit too informal and, well, normal to actually be written by Madonna. But, that's not the point of the thread.
I haven't seen the show, but I'm sure Madonna would be great. I have enjoyed her other big screen adventures (including Evita, where I thought she was phenominal).

I could see it. I don't see the show working well on the screen (same with Wicked) but if they want to waste their money, go ahead.
I'm a little shocked by the MTV movie awards blog - the first one. That's so strange that they just give your award to someone else.

But it really doesn't surprise me. I can't say I'm an avid viewer of any of the MTV award shows, but I don't remember seeing anyone winning that wasn't present.

I could have sworn there was one at the most recent VMAs. Someone didn't show up.
Whoever wrote Cyndi Lauper would be good is so wrong... I can't even picture her getting through "Mamma Mia", much less "The Winner Takes It All"... I saw a video of her trying to duet with Cher on "Turn Back Time" and it was awful!
I luv Madonna. Would she be Donna?
I saw the Cyndi Lauper and Cher duet of If I Could Turn Back Time and it was not bad at all. l think she can mostly anything. I am not saying every cover she does it her best, but she has done such outstanding covers of hits like I'm Gonna Be Strong, What's Going On?, Iko Iko, Carey, At Last, Unchained Melody, Lipstick On Your Collar, Baby Workout, There's No Business Like Show Business, Stay, Strawberry Fields Forever and so many others as well as a christmas cd and she rocked on them all so doing Abba songs would be no challange for her. She has a 4 ovtave range and Madonna doesn't. When Celine Dion did her verison of I Drove All Night she didn't even touch the surface of the song the way Cyndi Lauper did. many other artists have covered her classic Time After Time and not one of them can touch her rendition. Dhe got great reviews for her broadway debut in The ThreePenny Opera. So she will deliver if given the role of Donna in Mamma Mia.

The main thing that "Mamma Mia" has going for it is fundamental, breezy congeniality. It thrives on "likeability."
That's why Olivia Newton-John would be perfect.
That is why Madonna would not.

best12bars---I agree with you 100%.
I didn't know this movie was even happening. Kind of an odd time to bring another movie musical out: Dreamgirls, Hairspray, Sweeney Todd... I think moviegoers are going to get sick of it. But yeah, Madonna could pull it off, but Olivia Newton John is my choice. And Rosie O'Donnel as Rosie. Hehe.
Madonna could definitely pull it off. I'd like ONJ too!
Olivia Newton-John-Tanya
Madonna-Donna
Rosie O' Donnel-Rosie
That would work.
