She was great in evita(golden globe award winner and huge box office gross and some amazing reviews).
But hey each to there own xx
It didn't have a huge box office gross, I remember it was a big flop, despite Madonna's huge following.
The budget for the film was $55 million
It's worldwide gross was $141,047,179
Video and dvd sales added on almost $13 million worldwide
so it made close to 100 million profit
so it was not even close to a flop.
thoose figures are from box office mojo xx
I could see her doing well in the role, too, but hasn't she sworn off doing movies? I know I've read that somewhere.
EDIT: Oh, ahah! Must actually click the link before I comment from now on...

Yeah she mentions that on her same blog as this is on but she's obviously having second thoughts.
I have a feeling Madonna ultimately isn't going to want to play the mother of a twenty year old.
West End Artist, you do realize that’s not actually Madonna posting messages on that blog, right?

I would have no problem with Madonna or Olivia as Donna. I can actually see Michelle Pfeiffer in the role, too.
You know who I would love as Tanya though? Kim Cattrall. Tell me she wouldn't be amazing.
I read somewhere Michelle Pfeiffer was the first choice for the part and once she passed Madonna was offered.
Brenda Vaccaro gets my vote!

If you believe everything you read on the internet, Madonna is also:
Co-hosting the Jerry Lewis MD Telethon this weekend, and
Slated to star in the movie re-make of MARY POPPINS (based ont he new Broadway version).

Olivia Newton-John would be great, but I think Madonna would sell more movie tickets
and she wouldnt be that bad either! she'd actually make me more interested in seeing this!
I'd love to see this happen..... I think this role is perfect for Madonna and would love to hear her singing the Abba catalog. And let's face it -- it's not a very deep, challenging role that requires a top-notch actress. But it's been proven that this is not her 'official' blog and she or her people have nothing to do with it's content, so I will not get my hopes up until it is from a reliable source.
btw -- the 'Confessions Tour' was Abba-solutely Fabulous!!!!!
Cyndi Lauper was born to play that part. I am sick of her getting passed on all the great musical roles. She one of the best singers of the last 2 centuries.

I don't think having a crowd drawing name should automatically place you at the top of a short list of choices. Talent should count for something as well. Putting aside my thoughts of Madonna being a humorless bore since she became born-again, she has never proven herself as a legit actress. Knowing how Hollywood works, the role would probably be curtailed to fit whatever star would be playing it and, frankly, that's where most projects begain to fail. Stick with the story and find talent who can play it. Not the other way around.

Madonna became born again?

yeah, what does that mean?
and as the8re phan said, it is not a deep or challenging role, and she would do it very well!
I'm just so excited about her hosting the Jerry Lewis telethon this weekend! Now that's some good news!
I think Madonna is a great choice that will have international appeal. Especially on the heels of "Confessions". I love ONJ, but no one would pay money to see ONJ in a film. She's not a box office draw in any way, shape or form. She doesn't even sell out Casino showrooms. I think it will end up Madonna, Rosie, and Rita Wilson.
I'm pretty sure Madonna is still the poster child for Kabbalah, not born-again Christianity.
And for what it's worth, I can scarcely think of anyone more perfect for the role of Donna than Olivia Newton-John.
Mamma Mia is one of those musicals that, if turned into a movie, needs and can support big stars of both movies and music in the roles. I think Madonna would be amazing.
As long as Paris Hilton isn't cast as Sophie, I'll be fine.

Is that even really Madonna's blog?
no, it's not. which sort of makes it dumb for us to even discuss this as a valid news item.
Well, I used to think it wasn't a real blog but now I think it is. I searched and couldn't find anything suggesting it was fake. I would think it would be shut down for legal reasons if it weren't. And the information is too accurate. And it has a link to www.madonna.com which is legit.
Anyway, I don't think she's the best actress but maybe she could pull this off.

From an etymological perspective she should get the role. Mamma Mia and Madonna are both names for the virgin mary. The name of the character that Madonna would play is Donna, quite similar to Madonna. Ma-donna practices the religion Kabbalah. Which famous groups name can you find within that word? ABBA means father in hebrew and arabic. The word father could also describe god. Therefore from an etymological perspective a cooperation between ABBA and Madonna should be fruitful even if they don't meet physically. Mmm.
